Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Surreal. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Los Angeles Based composer and producer Eric Surreal is the essence of timeless Hip-Hop. Nostalgic in taste, Surreal blends classic soul, funk and R&B with contemporary trap elements. Surreal started off making and recording music with his father at the age of nine and had been recording and making music since then. It’s no surprise that he was raised in his Grandfather’s church, where his relationship with the drums was fostered. With a background in live instrumentation, his signature sound elevates the frequency in any space and stands apart from producers of his time. Surreal lends wavy, high-energy vocals to his production, allowing him to control all aspects of his composition. A true student of the culture, he draws influence from a spectrum of artists ranging from Jodeci to Future and truly lives in the passion of his craft. Surreal has several projects produced and written by himself and has produced for multiple artists. Surreal has performed in multiple cities on Pink Siifu Gumbo: For the folks tour. Surreal has every intention of maintaining this momentum and expanding his timeless sound into the universe.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Moving to LA was tough trying to find a place to live and get on my feet. Chasing my dreams has caused me to lose numerous friends that I grew up with. Things were said about me that were not entirely true and caused a lot of separation.. do you know that God is able to heal all things and I’m pretty sure this will not be a lasting situation; whatever is needed to be done to rectify the situation regarding the trust of my friends, I will take those steps, and if it’s not meant to be, I wish them the best luck along the way.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a producer/songwriter/engineer/singer. I’ve been creating music for 12 years but only been recording myself for six. I have a project for lease and five more waiting and ready to be released featuring off in several different genres such as R&B, Rock, Rap, Soul and Funk and I am the sole creator of all of my work-from-home production all the way to the engineering and mixing and mastering.
How do you think about happiness?
Create music, create the sounds that I have always liked since Y Dot has a child being able to see my family happy and my friends happy and doing well. I love to help others and encourage others in life music. Someone becomes successful at something that they have always dreamed.
