Conversations with Du’Shawn Hausley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Du’Shawn Hausley.

Hi Du’Shawn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story began singing at home at the tender age of 5. My dad would give me space to sing before he spoke anywhere. This helped me to get familiar with being in front of crowds. As I matured in age, I sang in chorale, choirs, and in churches around the area. After college, I decided to pursue music further. My decision came as no surprise to my family and friends since music was all I ever talked about. Today I am a musician part-time and continuing to write music that inspires impacts, and touches the hearts of many generations.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road of an artist is quite difficult, yet I continued to pursue music at different times in my life. Due to being affected by several people in the music business, I put myself on a hiatus where I stopped creating altogether. Not until January 2020 did I decide to start writing again for myself and made a plan to Co-Produce my album alongside an amazingly talented young lady, AJ Beats productions which brought about the birth of my album “Relational Grace.”.

Achieving the completion of this project was a huge accomplishment. I stepped out and did not let fear hold me back. This project was created amid the pandemic where we produced an album across states and socially distanced. Up until this point I had never recorded my own instrument and vocals, so I had to teach myself how to do this. I remember recording a song all the way through just to realize it was missing sound or I hit the wrong button. Most of the album was recorded in the late hours of the night so taking care of my health was key because I needed to show up vocally and have great energy.

I am a married mother of 3 amazing children so prioritizing time with everyone and then making time for the album was hard at times. Thankfully, I have a husband that helped out from time to time which made things go a little smoother. After completing all that hard work, I released the album October 19, 2021 with two accompanying music videos. The process was fun, creative and a stretch at the same time, but totally worth it. Currently, I’m working on some new songs and still promoting the album.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
When I am not creating music, I spend most days helping families find simple health solutions and creating content for our family brand that inspires and gives hope to people. I am most known for music, health, family and faith. I am most proud of our family and the journey we all are on together. What sets me apart from others as an artist and creative is my versatility and ability to bridge the gap between the younger and older generation. I am a connector by nature and my music has that same quality.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If I could give advice to my younger self I would say, “Always be yourself and know that you can do anything, even the things that scare you.” I want to encourage everyone reading this to look in the mirror and know that the only one who can stop you from succeeding is you. There is no competition because there is only one you and no one can beat you being you. You don’t have to be perfect to be amazing, you just have to start.
