Conversations with Dave Shecter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Shecter.

Dave, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I joined a talent agency after high school. I looked at it more like something to do rather than a possible career.. In 2012 -2013 I started auditioning for student films and short films to get some experience and after landing a few roles I found out how much I really enjoyed it and started doing anything and everything just to build my resume and as of now I’ve got what I feel is quite an impressive IMDB page and I’ve traveled around the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a struggle for sure trying to keep a full time job where I work 50+ hours a week and then spend every waking moment after work acting, writing, building sets and trying to make really good films. Making films is never easy either. Scheduling actors and location scouting can be very time consuming and frustrating but its what you have to do when your an indie film maker.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love acting, directing, writing, building sets, collecting props. I do it all. I’m currently building a set in my shop for the opening scene in my next short film and we just wrapped production on a short i was in called Returning Empty. Im really proud of some of the sets I’ve built which include 3 interrogation rooms and a jail cel and the thing is that I want my sets to be as real and accurate possible so for the jail cell for instance, I went out and bought a real prison toilet and sink combo along with a cot and mattress. I try my best to be the best at whatever im doing.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Well I’ve jumped out of an airplane 25 times, and been scuba diving with sharks which was pretty risky. As far as acting, I’ve invested alot of time and effort and money in myself and others to write, produce and create films, I’ve traveled around the world to help others create films. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it dosent quite turn out as you wish.. so there is alot of risk in what im doing, yes, you just have to try and choose wisely and hope for the best.
