Conversations with Christina Chuyue Wen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Chuyue Wen.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been working in LA since 2018 starting as an assistant/intern in the audio post-production industry. Throughout the 4 years, I have worked as an Orchestral Engineer for feature films, film score assistant mixer, video game/film, and TV dialogue editor, dialogue mastering engineer, mix technician, film and TV re-recording mixer as well as a sound supervisor.

I got to where I am today by working with and learning from the right mentors. I have worked with many different studios all over Los Angeles as well and getting to have the experience of working with different people has helped me gain a lot of knowledge and see different workflows. I have been very lucky to be surrounded by successful people in the industry who are also willing to teach and trust me with opportunities that help me grow as a sound talent in the industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been good and bad. Luckily the majority of the time now I work within a team that has been wonderful to me. But I believe any previous rough experiences happened so that I could learn from them and be better off as well. In our industry, teamwork is incredibly crucial which means that being able to communicate clearly and get along with the people you work with is extremely important for a good and smooth work experience.

Understanding how we fit into a team on different projects takes effort so that I understand the needs of everyone I’m working with. I think the biggest thing I learned outside of the knowledge and skills during the time I have worked is to see my value and stand up for what I believe as well, as to know how to set boundaries. It is also very important to handle stress and pressure with a calm mind. This way, the people I work with will feel more trusting in me as well.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently working as a Film and TV Mix Technician, Dialogue Editor, and Re-recording mixer. I specialize in putting together and cleaning up production recordings as well as voiceovers, running technical support for Film and TV mix stages, setting up and delivering Films and TV shows, and I am also a supervisor and re-recording mixer myself for indie films. My job is to work with different sound teams in different roles to fix up and or recreate the sound for film and TV for the viewers.
