Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Brennen.
Hi Chloe, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
In undergrad, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to major in. I was in between film and psychology – two totally different avenues. I ultimately chose film because I feel like I’m a very creative person and want to pursue a career in film. I completed my BA degree, but I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do in film. I had an interest in editing, so I decided to get my master’s in video editing, and it was the best decision I could make. I love it so much.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like everything, getting to where I am has been challenging but rewarding. The beginning of my video editing career was bumpy because it felt like most places wanted 3+ years of experience. Still, I finally started getting opportunities at companies for internships and have learned a lot of skills that I can apply in future internships and jobs. Dodge has been the best in terms of the classes they offer for post-production. I have learned a lot about post-production workflow, and I feel like it is helping me be more prepared when looking for jobs.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My main focus is video editing. I’m probably the minority, but I like organizing footage and syncing sound. There’s just something about preparing and organizing projects that bring me joy. I also feel like I am pretty good at picking out the best performances in people when going through takes. I’m proud of interning for a music production company called happy I’m sad. I interned with them for the summer and fall of 2023, editing trailers for music videos and grabbing stills. I eventually want to edit music videos, so I think working for a company that works on music videos has been the highlight of my career so far.
Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I have a website with my contact information. I think just having people check out my work is pretty rewarding because I spend hours and days trying to make the best short films, podcasts, and social media videos I can.
