Conversations with Cherrnor Malekani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherrnor Malekani

Hi Cherrnor, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Moved to Los Angeles from Santa Barbara and began in the marketing industry the last decade or so, specializing in travel and tourism, cannabis, and apparel! I began out of necessity for work purposes and ran with the process on my own, picking up various freelance clients like Cookies, Khalifa Kush, Higher Standards, and others and have now moved on to working for the camera brand, Leica in West Hollywood! I am originally from Zambia, and my grandfather from the Democratic Republic of the Congo was a photographer who I never had the opportunity to meet so I feel as though the biggest drive behind me and my work is uplifting and carrying his legacy forward in it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been peaks and troughs; there have been times of great success and failure. Most of the struggles I face have been limitations of knowledge but, over time, have improved! Whether working with different clients or exploring new methods to improve my photography, it is a never-ending process of growth and discovery! During the pandemic, I received a lot of freelancing opportunities and had a never-ending workflow but as the industry has shifted, it has forced me to adapt – particularly with the changes to social media that have made me readjust my approach to creativity as a whole!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in portrait/apparel/cannabis/ and consumer packaged goods for my photography. I’m primarily known for my lifestyle and portrait work, as well as my apparel photography. I am most proud of the work that I was able to do alongside Cookies as well as Higher Standards, helping grow the brands across multiple social media platforms. What sets me apart from others is my creative style with lighting and focus on capturing people in candid natures.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am always open to work, people can feel free to reach out to me on social media to connect directly! I will be opening my print store at the end of this year with various pieces available for purchase beginning in November so look out for that announcement coming shortly!
