Conversations with Charoné DeShazier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charoné DeShazier.

Hi Charoné, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
ENORAH Jewelry originally came about in October of 2021 after taking a much-needed break from my first business that I started in 2020 handmaking macramé plant hangers, due to the discomfort I was experiencing in my hands and wrists. What started as another hobby, quickly turned into a passion and now a second business. In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, I was furloughed from my job as a careered Registered Veterinary Technician and soon found myself having to figure out what I was going to do until I could find another job. I started handmaking plant hangers, as I have a love for houseplants and needed more places to place them, and it soon took off. Leading me to start my first business MacraméByCharoné. As mentioned previously, this led me to needing a break from the constant braiding movements needed to create my hangers and looking for something else to occupy my time. And then, ENORAH was born. Experimenting with different styles and patterns, every idea that popped into my head, I attempted to create in my jewelry. Over time, my designs started to improve and become more creative-and so I decided to test them out at the local vendor fairs I participate in selling my plant hangers. To my surprise, they started selling and I decided then that I would go all in and start creating jewelry. Fast forward to a year later, I have been blessed with so many opportunities that I never would have imagined I would have otherwise. My products are now in two shops in the Sacramento area, I have been featured on the local news stations numerous times, I had the opportunity to showcase my pieces with ATF Fashion House NYC for this year’s New York Fashion Week, and to top it all off, be interviewed for a second time by VoyageLA Magazine! This year has definitely been a much-needed but unexpected surprise to say the least, and I am excited to see it all takes myself and ENORAH Jewelry!!!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Entrepreneurship is most certainly not for the undetermined. There are a lot of days where I question if I should keep going, or If I should return to work full-time and put this on hold instead. Trying to learn all the ins and outs of the business world, finances, all of it. The one thing I can say is that if it weren’t for the support of friends and family as well as the extreme passion, I have discovered for creating my pieces, I probably would have thrown in the towel a long time ago.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Once a full-time Registered Veterinary Technician, I now consider myself a full-time maker. I create carefully handcrafted jewelry out of polymer clay. Each of my pieces are unique and I put a lot of love into each one. I am known largely for my uniqueness in my pieces. My customers always tell me how much they love that they have never seen any other jewelry quite like mine, and that is something that I strive for and definitely take pride in. I guess what sets me apart from other makers is… ME! My ideas, my style, my personality- I am what sets me apart from everyone else!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Enjoying what you do and remaining yourself through the process. Allowing yourself to feel and go through the ups and downs, but still knowing that it is all completely normal.
