Conversations with Chae’ Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chae’ Jones.

Chae’ Jones

Hi Chae’, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started by watching TV shows and movies. My childhood wasn’t always stable, but when I watched media, everything else faded away. I could escape into other stories and be still for that time. Whether the stories were similar to mine or the complete opposite, I just wanted to be in those moments. I wanted to create stories that might change someone else’s life the way mine was changed forever.

As a content creator and entertainment host, I never imagined I would be doing this because it seemed so different from acting. I wasn’t sure if I could do it without turning my back on my dream. However, I’ve come to realize that it’s actually a continuation of my dream. Throughout my entire life, I’ve never fit into a single box or just been one thing. My journey is unique, and that’s okay because it’s mine.

I am a strong advocate for diversity and representation in the industry. There has been a lot of discussion about minorities existing in space, in fantasy worlds, as aliens, or in any other space where we don’t conform to stereotype that someone has created in their minds about us. Even in fantasy, they can’t see our value in those roles. Many stories feature characters who all look the same. By having a story with a person of color or a woman of color as the lead, we can enhance the story and also give people the opportunity to see a story that promotes cultural equity and shows that we are valuable. Diversity has never been just for the people it represents. It is also for others so that when they see it, it doesn’t seem strange or different. It’s just normal.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road is still a work in progress. I think part of my struggle isn’t even hearing “no.” Finding the balance between living in a new city and pursuing my dreams without burning myself out creatively. I know I could have given up or chosen a different path that might be easier, but I wouldn’t be happy. At the end of the day, I would rather continue to find ways to balance supporting myself that allow me to pursue my dreams than go down a different career choice where I might be more financially stable and it could make my life easier, but lose a piece of myself each day because I know I am not content.

Life is too short to live only one life doing what makes me happy. There would be regrets. This world is already filled with enough regrets, and I don’t need to contribute more. I’m afraid of the unknown, but I’m still choosing to face it. Out of all the things I know I was meant to do, nothing feels as right as this.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The thing I am most proud of is that I’m still on this journey I made to follow my dreams. It hasn’t been easy or quick, but I’m still on it. More importantly, I still love it. Despite all the ups and downs this industry has been experiencing pre- and post-strike, I truly love this industry and how I’ve been shaped by it. I could have given up and left Los Angeles, but I didn’t. I’ve never been a quitter, and I never want to give up on myself. I am proud of the opportunities I’ve been able to have so far and those I will have in the future.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck has played a significant role in my life. I believe that both good and bad luck are essential for personal character development and true success. If you never experience failure, how do you learn to overcome challenges? How do you develop determination and humility? I consider myself fortunate to wake up every day able to interact with the people I’ve met and pursue new opportunities. I’ve also learned that sometimes we have to create our own luck. Occasionally, luck needs a little assistance as well.
