Today we’d like to introduce you to Brendan Martin.
Hi Brendan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started rapping in high school, which led me to opening locally for Wu-Tang and Mac Miller. Through college I kept that momentum, opening for major artists like Lupe Fiasco and J. Cole at both my school and big venues around Albany, New York. After graduating, I gave myself one year to see if I could make music financially sustainable-and I did.
From there, things took off. I did multiple shows with J. Cole, opened for Mac Miller, and eventually landed records with Kendrick Lamar, T-Pain, and Juicy J. I was named Best Hip-Hop Artist in New York, performed at Summer Jam on Hot 97, and was flown out to LA by Warner Chappell Music. That’s where I dove deep into songwriting and fell in love with artist development. For years, my focus was songwriting, vocal production, and building a business around that.
But I also saw how often artists were getting taken advantage of on the marketing side. I’d personally lost over $100,000 to fake marketing services. So I went back to my A-list contacts, asked how their artists actually broke through, and got connected to their marketing teams. I spent three and a half years studying the exact strategies they used, reverse-engineering the process. Once I started applying those methods for my artists, labels took notice.
Now I run campaigns for major labels and serve as the backend for many of the biggest music marketing companies you see online. A lot of those services are powered by us—we’re the white-label fulfillment team behind the scenes.
Our core values are simple:
1. Human first
2. White-glove, done-for-you service
3. Making sure every artist feels safe in the process from start to finish
We don’t pressure people into buying. We create an open space where artists choose to elevate their careers. We stay hands-on throughout the entire campaign and even after. That approach has helped deliver over a **billion streams on Spotify** and **300 million views on social media**.
At the same time, I’ve stayed active as an artist. I’ve helped deliver over 100 label deals to other artists, while signing 20–30 label deals a year myself for singles I produce. Just recently, my record *“Summer In Your Arms”* with Maggie Szabo dropped on Soave Records, landed a major Spotify editorial, and is doing about 20,000 streams per day.
My day-to-day is a mix of running my company, building a team, and still being in sessions. My right hand in business affairs, Christy Garcia, is the backbone of the operation. We’ve also brought on full-time developers and VAs who are killing it. A typical day starts with morning calls with the team, client calls, and then heading into the studio.
On top of that, I built a page called *Mindful Music Mentor*, which has gone viral with millions of views per month. It’s where I coach artists and share the same advice I give labels—marketing strategies, songwriting tips, production insights. Our company is high-ticket, with campaigns usually starting at a few thousand dollars, so I wanted to create a free space where artists who can’t afford those services can still access the knowledge and apply it themselves.
Long story short: I’ve lived both sides—as an artist and as the guy behind the scenes—and everything I do is about empowering artists to thrive without getting taken advantage of.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I signed a record deal in 2011 that I was in for over 11 years. I can’t say much, but it was one of the hardest things I’ve been through. It forced me into a lot of inner growth—meditation, therapy, healing—and it pushed me to build relationships not based on what someone could get me, but on how they could feed my soul. That experience shaped me into becoming a true spiritual resource for artists, not just a logical one.
The music industry is always a struggle. It’s tough to make money, so you end up wearing a lot of different hats. Right now, I produce for artists, I write for artists, I work on sync deals, I do label deals, I sing, I rap, and I run my music marketing company. Getting by in LA takes being multi-faceted. That’s been one challenge. And beyond that, in this industry you *are* the product. You feel tied to it so deeply that when someone says no—whether it’s a label, an artist, a producer, or a writer—it feels like they’re turning you down as a person.
One of the biggest lessons has been learning to separate myself from the product. You give it your energy, but then you let it go and allow it to live on its own. Trusting your gut is crucial, too. Out here, there are a lot of people with egos who try to sway you just to have power. They’re not necessarily wrong for themselves, but they might be wrong for you. The key is to take in all the information, recognize what resonates, and still trust your gut at the end of the day.
In the early days, I trusted everyone. I didn’t value my own conclusions or what I had built, because I assumed others had more experience. But this journey is individual and custom. It’s always about coming back to your gut. Building a business isn’t easy either. You think hiring people will solve everything, but then you have to manage them, coach them, pay them. At first, that can be overwhelming. Over time it’s smoothed out, and now my team is adding a ton of value, but those first months were a real hurdle.
It’s the same with any new venture. The first six months to two years are the toughest, but eventually you push through. I posted on @mindfulmusicmentor for a year before getting any traction. In the beginning, I was getting 13, 20, maybe 27 likes a post. Now we’re consistently pulling 10,000 to 50,000 views per video, and every so often one hits a million.
It all comes down to time and consistency. That’s why it’s so important to choose something you truly care about. Passion carries you through the waiting period, and it makes the work itself worth it while you wait for it to blossom.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Hi! My name is Brendan Martin (Known as B Martin).
I started out as a rapper – and after a few years – was named Best Hip-Hop Artist in New York by Hot 97. Over the years, I’ve collaborated with artists like Kendrick Lamar, T-Pain, and Juicy J, and performed alongside J. Cole, Mac Miller and many more. In 2021, one of my dance songs charted on top 20 on the Billboard charts, which opened the door for me to release with top dance labels and explore new sounds!
A bit more backround – aside from my artist stuff:
In 2017, I discovered my passion for developing artists. Helping others create powerful, unique records gave me the freedom and perspective I hadn’t realized I needed. But I also saw a darker side of the industry…many talented artists were getting scammed by fake marketing companies – getting their music taken down. I knew what that felt like because it happened to me too. I lost over $100,000 trying to market my own music the wrong way. Always scams. It was sad. But it lit a fire inside of me.
I went back to my A-list industry contacts and got introductions to their marketing teams. For 3 years, I studied how major artists were really being marketed, and reverse-engineered their systems. I applied what I learned to my own artists, and soon we were landing label deals, going viral, and building real fanbases. That journey became the foundation for my company, Purpose Driven Entertainment.
Today, we act as a white-label partner for labels and agencies around the world. Our work has generated over a billion streams and 300 million views for artists across social media and streaming platforms. Just this week – we had an album we pushed go #1.
But in working with thousands of artists, i’ve had to turn even more down, due to budgetary restraints. I thought long and hard how I can help those without budget –
For those who can’t yet afford large-scale campaigns, I created @MindfulMusicMentor, an educational platform with free resources that’s reached tens of millions of views and helped thousands of artists grow their careers authentically.
I’ve been an artist for 17 years, and my reputation means everything. In 2020, I made the decision to get sober, and I’ve been five years sober since. It’s the best decisions I’ve ever made. Not having an escape left me face to face with the things i had been running away from. Slowly, I found my peace and my highs by becoming a man.
I now have my dream studio in Los Angeles, fully equipped with top-tier gear, where I develop and mentor artists daily. Beyond production, I’m launching a publishing company to help artists stay consistent with their writing, content, and business systems – building not just promotion but a strong foundation for long-term success. I’ve lived through the highs and lows that most artists face, and that’s what drives me to protect and empower others. I’m not just building a business – I’m building a community of artists who win the right way. I put every ounce of my heart into this.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m a big fan of The Tim Ferriss Show and meditation sessions with Tara Brach. I also love listening to Andrew Huberman, along with other thought leaders who focus on optimizing physical and mental performance. I’ve found that when I’m operating at my best—physically, mentally, and spiritually—my creativity flows effortlessly. It impacts everything: my music, my ideas, and the results I create for other artists.
I also spend time studying music theory, songwriting, and production, but more than anything, I focus on optimizing my body and mind so I can show up as a clear, grounded, and effective guide for the artists I work with.
