Today we’d like to introduce you to Anisa Lucero
Hi Anisa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I took an interest in modeling when I was in high school but I never had the confidence to pursue it, until the photographer who took my senior photos told me I’d do great in the industry and encouraged me to give it a try. I then started working with photographers during my free time, shooting different styles to build up a portfolio. At first it was really overwhelming, and I was rejected from several agencies for years which was extremely discouraging, it made me feel like I wasn’t good enough. Eventually, I signed with an agency local to my area and I’ve been working with them on projects ever since! I’ve walked in several runway shows, had magazine publications, and have had opportunities to work with some amazing designers and other incredibly talented people.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Although I wish i could say it’s been a smooth road, there’s definitely been many struggles i’ve faced during my time in the industry. Dealing with rejection is one of the hardest parts to overcome and accept, but it comes with the job. At first, I felt like any time I was rejected from a job or a casting it was simply because I wasn’t good enough to be there, it took some time to realize that I’m not going to be a perfect fit for every casting, and there are some I simply don’t fit the part for, and that’s okay!
Another issue I’ve struggled with working in the industry are ways that I can express myself. In my opinion, I don’t fit the stereotypical look of a “model”. I have several piercings, and I love to color my hair, which has been addressed as an issue in the past. I’ve always looked professional while on the job, but I sometimes feel like I’m being pushed into a box even in my free time, unable to express myself in the ways I’ve always loved to
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Aside from modeling, I studied ballet for majority of my life. I started taking ballet lessons when I was three years old and I’ve continued to study and teach into my adult life. I’m also currently a full-time student studying film and American Sign Language (ASL). Acting has been my lifelong dream, but growing up in a small town, I didn’t have many opportunities to pursue it. Now, I’m attending school to help make that dream a reality. I’m also studying ASL because I want to become an interpreter and help bridge the language barrier. Everyone has a voice and deserves to be heard
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m always open for collaborations and working with new people! I’m constantly looking for new photographers or brands to work with. I personally prefer to work with smaller photographers and/or brands because I feel like it’s common for their work to be overlooked by larger photographers or companies that people are more accustomed to. I want to use my platform to help others promote their work, and give them the credit that their talent deserves.
