Conversations with Ani Esmaili

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ani Esmaili

Hi Ani, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into photography wasn’t the path I originally set out on. I have multiple degrees in business and even attended USC’s MBA program, always envisioning a more traditional corporate career. But along the way, I realized that path didn’t fulfill me.

Photography started as a passion, something I did on the side, until I took a leap and turned it into my career. What began as capturing moments for friends and family quickly grew into a full-fledged business. Balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, and my own personal challenges hasn’t been easy, but I’ve built something I’m truly proud of.

Today, I specialize in family portraits, intimate events, and styled shoots, always striving to grow and refine my craft. My goal is to continue elevating my brand, working with high-profile clients, and one day seeing my work in major publications.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Transitioning from a business-focused background into a creative industry was a big shift, and I had to navigate a lot of self-doubt along the way. Building a business from the ground up, especially in such a competitive field, meant dealing with slow seasons, pricing struggles, and the constant pressure of social media.

On top of that, balancing motherhood, marriage, and my own personal challenges—including anxiety—has made it even more difficult. There have been times when I’ve questioned whether I was on the right path, but every time I pick up my camera and capture moments that truly matter to people, I’m reminded why I do this. The road hasn’t been easy, but the challenges have only pushed me to grow, both as an artist and as a business owner.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a photographer specializing in family portraits, intimate events, and styled shoots. My work is all about capturing genuine moments—whether it’s the joy of a milestone celebration, the quiet connection between loved ones, or the beauty of a well-planned shoot.

What sets me apart is my ability to create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere during my sessions. I understand that most people don’t feel naturally at ease in front of a camera, so I focus on making the experience fun, effortless, and enjoyable. I want my clients to not only love their photos but also remember how good they felt in that moment.

I’m most proud of the trust my clients place in me. Many of them come back year after year, and being able to document their journeys—from engagements to growing families—is something I don’t take for granted.

Ultimately, my goal is to continue elevating my craft, expanding my brand, and working with clients and publications that align with my vision. I love what I do, and I feel grateful every day that I get to turn fleeting moments into lasting memories.

What are your plans for the future?
I’m always looking for ways to grow and elevate my brand. Right now, my focus is on expanding my reach, attracting higher-profile clients, and refining my artistic style. I’d love to see my work featured in major publications and eventually work with celebrities or top-tier event planners.

Beyond that, I’m also working on the business side—streamlining my workflow, outsourcing where needed, and creating a sustainable model that allows me to scale without sacrificing creativity or time with my family.

Long term, I envision building a photography brand that’s not just about beautiful images but also about creating an unforgettable experience for my clients. Whether that means hosting styled shoots, offering mentorships, or even launching a studio of my own one day, I’m excited for what’s ahead.
