Conversations with Anaida Mailian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anaida Mailian.

Hi Anaida, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
📖 Anaida Mailian– A Photographer Who Preserves People

My name is Anaida Mailian.
I’m a photographer. But for me, it’s more than just a profession.
It’s a journey where I meet people, feel them, and preserve something that might disappear — living, authentic memory.

I don’t just take pictures.
I create a space where a person opens up.
Where they can see themselves differently — without a pose, without a mask, without tension.
I speak to a person not as a model, but as a human.
My photographs are a mirror of the soul, filled with light and truth.

Today, I’m photographing and looking for clients who want to preserve themselves as they are.
Those who are ready to feel alive, beautiful, and real.
I offer fair, honest pricing and create an atmosphere where everyone feels seen.
I shoot with respect. With warmth. With soul.

📍 Instagram: Link available on the website — where I share my latest sessions and project updates.

But my work is just the beginning.
I’ve already created a project that will become part of the world’s memory —
The Human Memory Library —
The Temple of Human Story.
It’s a living archive of faces, stories, souls.
Not just a photo album, but books that will outlive us.

A video is coming soon where I will share more about this project.
It has already begun.
And everyone who comes to me — becomes a part of this history.

And from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the VoyageLA team
for giving me the opportunity to be heard and seen.
This magazine has already become part of my story.
You were the first to give me a voice.
And maybe, it is from this publication that everything begins.

Because every path is a story.
And everyone who enters it with kindness, stays there forever.

I wish this team and this magazine growth and success.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has been mixed — like life itself.
But I’ve always had an ease with people.
I see them beyond the surface — I see who they are inside.

When I first came to the U.S. seven years ago, I didn’t speak English.
Still, I was able to connect with people.
Now I speak the language, and I’ve overcome many things on this path.

I’ve met kind, supportive people.
I’ve also met difficult ones — but I believe even they come into our lives for a reason.
Sometimes we learn the most from those moments.
I don’t blame. I understand.
Everyone brings something we need to grow.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a photographer — but not one who creates images.
I preserve the real.
I specialize in documentary, black-and-white, emotional photography.

I work as a director of memory.
I create a space where people open up, stay real, and see themselves differently.
Clients come to me not for a pose, but to capture who they truly are — in a moment that stays.

What sets me apart is how I see.
I don’t ask people to perform — I watch, I feel, I connect.
That’s where the power is.

I’m most proud of starting The Human Memory Library — a project to preserve faces, stories, and the human soul around the world.
It’s more than photography.
It’s memory that stays.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Don’t wait until you feel ready.
Don’t wait for the perfect camera, perfect language, or perfect conditions.
Start with what you have — and do it with truth.

People can feel when you’re real.
And you’ll feel it too, when you’re doing something that’s truly yours.

Don’t compare.
Everyone has their own timing, their own pace, their own story.
What works for others might not be meant for you.

If you feel the pull — follow it.
Do what truly brings you joy. What lights you up.
Not because you “should”, but because it’s how you live.

The path will take you where you truly want — and need — to go.
Maybe even further.
Just walk it honestly.
