Conversations with Sophie Mae

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sophie Mae.

Hi Sophie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My career path began in high school during an internship with Teen Vogue Magazine. During my senior year, I quickly fell in love with the fashion industry and begin to style both local runway shows and photo-shoots for the magazine.

After high school, I worked a series of retail jobs while building my client list as a personal shopper and fashion stylist. I would later start a popular fashion blog and begin styling clients full time. In 2010, I married my high school sweetheart. After planning and designing my entire wedding myself, it gave me a glimpse into the wonderful world of weddings! Pinterest was also beginning to gain popularity during this time and brides were able to see how other couples were designing their weddings. The platform showcased real-life inspiration for what a wedding could look like and showed them the endless possibilities when planning their big day!

About one year after getting married, some of my styling clients began to ask me to “style” and help them plan their weddings. Not really knowing what that meant exactly, I combined my skill of fashion styling and my love for organization and began to plan friend’s weddings. The first year I planned about three weddings while still working as a personal stylist, but as the years went on, Stylish Details Events became of the most sought after event planning companies in Orange County and Los Angeles. We now have a team of six amazing event planners and execute about 90 weddings per year as a team. We specialize in creating beautiful, fun and stress-free wedding days for our clients.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I truly believe that being an entrepreneur is one of the most challenging jobs in the world. As a business owner, you wear so many hats and it can be overwhelming at times. I have grown so much both personally and professionally over the past ten years as a business owner and am truly thankful for every challenge because they have made me stronger!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Many of our clients seek us out because we combine both logistical event planning and assist with complete event design. This means that we not only help our couples with production details such as establishing a run of show, creating detailed diagrams and sourcing all vendors, but we also help create and execute the overall look and feel of the event. Every detail is extremely important when planning the big day and that it why many of events are what we call “high production”. We love working with our clients to personalize every detail of their event because it really showcases their unique personalities and love story.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I have so many great memories growing up in Southern California, but one of my personal favorites was spending time with my friends in the pool or at the beach. There’s something about being in water that I love so much, even to this day!
