Conversations with Shonice Love

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shonice Love.

Hi Shonice, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey in 2013. I started doing makeup as a nightly hobbie to unwind after a long day in the office. I worked at a production company as a file clerk in the legal department. One day I stumbled across a contract for a Makeup Artist. Prior to that moment, I never thought about having a career in doing makeup. I had only seen makeup being done at department stores.

Once I realized I had found my passion, I signed up for makeup school and the rest is history. I have been offered the opportunity to work with amazing individuals, work on set and lastly move into different areas of creativity.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This road is not traveled without hardships. It’s always amazing to do what you love but you never know the hardships that come with it. It is hard to get advice from others because everyone’s journey is different. I have worked with all kinds of people that teach you different lessons. One of the struggles I experienced in my journey was not receiving images of my work back from photographers. I was test shooting with different photographers when I started. I had a hard time getting images back and I was in the process of building my portfolio. It can be very discouraging while you are trying to build a body of work to receive more work. The beauty in not receiving work back was, it forced me to pick up a camera and learn to do my own photography. With learning that skill from necessity, I can shoot my own work and offer photography as a service.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Makeup Artist, Photographer and Curve Model. I specialize Natural Glam makeup looks. I take pride in enhancing an individual’s natural beauty. I am known for doing makeup and photography. I am most proud of being multifaceted in my artistry. One day I can be a makeup artist, the next day a photographer and the day after that whatever role I am needed in. I am also proud of my ability to make clients feel like their concerns matter and they will be heard in regards to what they want in a makeup application. I never want to leave any of the customers I service unsatisfied. These things set me apart from other artists.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can reach me at www.shonicelove.com or my email [email protected]. I am always excited to work with new people. We all can learn from and support each other.
