Today we’d like to introduce you to Serbrina Bullock.
Hi Serbrina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a Vegan Chef and have been operating as a full-time chef since 2015. I am also a retired Federal Police Officer. I retired in 2014 when I was faced with a medical crisis, which is the reason I am so passionate about veganism in all of its aspects. My oncologist implored me to stop eating meat, consuming dairy products and gmo’s. After extensive research into my condition, I am relentless about sharing my research and knowledge to other women faced with numerous health conditions that was brought on by the food and products we consumed every day. My philosophical believe is that once knowledge is gained it should be shared. I was raised in a household where a made from scratch home-cooked meal was the norm. But within that norm are generational habits that have detrimental effects within the black community. I have two daughters 23 years, 27 years old and two years old grandson.
As a women of the diaspora I believe it is my duty to help my sisters where they are. My eldest daughter was so devastated about my health crises she was started a vegan cannabis business in efforts to combat diseases such as cancer, diabetes, Parkinson disease in lieu of pharmaceuticals as the only option. A plant-based lifestyle is the new norm for my immediate family and every meal that my company prepares, {The Free World Cafe is made with the love and the understanding that what you eat is who you are. I am polymathic woman. In lieu of fighting for women’s rights specifically in domestic violence, I was arrested in July along with my daughter in 2019 for kidnapping my grandson as we were headed to the 1736 Family Crises Shelter in Los Angeles. Many women live with abuse and then face death or incarceration when they decide to leave their abusers, my story is one of many around the world. So I asked myself what will you do, what can we do collectively to help our women of color.
I will fight for justice for women of color who scream for help’ whose voices are stifled and bodies are ravaged with every fiber of my being. The Free World Cafe provides more than just healthy meals, I am a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, a voice for the voiceless, an advocate for black children, I stand against racial, social injustice and inequality. I will be an advocate for the women and provide a safe space for them to heal, mentally, physically and emotionally, a space to grow and nurture the feminine power that was hidden inside them. Being the Vice President of the {For The Fem In You} gives me the opportunity to provide that safe space, provide educational resources, mental health services and small business development. For The Fem In You is a movement that will be heard all over the world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My road has had many twists and turns. As a black female in law enforcement unequal treatment is a norm. Black women in the Federal Law Enforcement sectors face many challenges as they are entering into a male dominant and good old boy network. Many women face sexual, race and age discrimination. Though as a whole, we have come very far we have just scratched the surface. Within the fiber of the law enforcement apparatus, also acts outside the law to uphold established social and economical hierarchies. The practice of discriminatory abuse lies within the framework of the administration of justice which is not limited to measures enforcing criminal law. I would employ every agency to annually require each officer get a mental health evaluation. Law Enforcement Officers have the 3rd highest suicidal rates, 8th highest rate of domestic abuse. No need to say more about that. Getting locked up with my daughter and trying to maintain a healthy outlook on life while trying to start over is a challenge. But I have never been one to back down to a challenge. I created the Free World Cafe because of my love of cooking, but also a plant based alkaline foods are necessary for optimal health. We offer meal prep services, catering, cooking classes, Virtual/in-person tutorials, Vegan Baked Goods and nutritional plans. All natural skincare products are also available for purchase. I am so grateful to have met so many people here in L.A. that have embraced and welcomed me into this community.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

How do you define success?
Success is the ability to look at your brothers and sisters and say I see you, I am here for you, are you hungry, let’s eat, go on and cry just let it out, turn on some music, we can always make money but can we consistently build healthy relationships. My rules to success take care of your body and mind, make peace with your past, never give-up, never compare yourself, follow your instincts, smile, laugh at yourself when you want to, be kind to everyone. Success is not a thing or a place or social and economical status for me, it’s a feeling of peace within yourself that honors the God in you.
