Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Rico.
Hi Jesse, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From a very young age music has always been a part of my life, my uncle had this huge record/cd collection that varied from hip hop to jazz to prog rock, so as a child I was introduced to tons of great music and thats where the love for what I do started, East Coast hip hop in particular was the 1st genre I fell in love with and was always into the beats more than the lyrics. I was always curious of how producers arranged their drum patterns to sound so concise with the samples that were chopped so eloquently and that made me eager to learn how to make beats. As I got older, my love for Hip-Hop music grew and the hunger to learn grew and at the age of 19 I got my first beat pad (Akai MPD 28) and started with a program called reason, having to self teach myself to learn was definitely a journey in itself and fell in love with the process, From arranging drums to chopping rare samples and creating a piece of art is what solidifies for me that this is what I wanna do for the rest of my life. My inspirations come from the likings of J-Dilla, Pete Rock, The Alchemist, Madlib, RZA.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, I think the hardest part of it all is distinguishing what you want your sound to be and what makes you different from all the other beatmaker/producers out there. Some of the main struggles is finding the time to do what you love, for me the main struggle was finding a balance with work and passion, and it takes time to find a routine that works best, but as long as you remind yourself the why then the how will fall into place. What has helped me is planning, have a set schedule on what you want to work on. Hope this helps anyone that is trying to do the same.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I go by MadScience Beats I’ve been making beats for about ten years now and just started releasing music last year in October. If you haven’t listened to any of my music yet, I am currently on all streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.). My biggest accomplishments so far is being able to release a full beat tape (Don’t tell anyone about my beat tape Vol.1) that dropped October this year as well as being able to collaborate with my brother Westcoast Mo and produce 3 of his tracks on his new album (Dinastia De La Muerte). I got some projects lined up that are gonna drop 2021, so be on the lookout for that and I am working with a few local artists that will drop their albums as well.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My mom, first and foremost for allowing me to do what I love and always supported me throughout the way as well as my fiancé that has helped me and pushed me to not give up and continue to pursue my dreams. And to all the people that have supported me throughout my journey, thank you!!
