Today we’d like to introduce you to Danyele E Thomas.
Hi Danyele E, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I stumbled into jewelry designing while working in wardrobe for theaters and admiring a necklace a costume designer was wearing. I was so in awe of the piece because I had never seen anything like it before and I wanted to know more, see more and buy a few pieces for myself. I asked the designer exactly how it was made and she said it was crocheted by using beading wire.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growth is never smooth, but it’s been rewarding. I’ve been doing this for eight years and over that course, I’ve learned and grown so much as a designer and business owner. I’ve taken a passion/hobby and turned it into a full-time job that I look forward to going to every day. Whether learning about product materials, product development, networking, craft shows, customer service, and designing, you wear so many hats and that can be very time consuming and challenging.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I believe I found my niche in creating crocheted wire jewelry. You don’t see this type of jewelry often. I am actually self-taught. After seeing my designs, when I tell this story people find it hard to believe. I’m not a normal crocheter. I taught myself how to crochet on wire, not on yarn. Yarn still feels foreign to me. My being self-taught and creating designs out of wire I believe makes my jewelry extremely unique and truly one of a kind. I’m proud that I was able to create a full line of jewelry that people love.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I like that there’s so much diversity and so many styles. Everyone is free to be themselves, expressive and respected for it.
