Today we’d like to introduce you to Daria V.
Hi Daria, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in the small town of Snezhinsk, Russia. Ever since I could remember, my life ran on a very strict schedule. My parents are accredited for that, they had me while they were in their 20s, still figuring out life for themselves. As young as they were, they still made sure to give me the best education possible. I was enrolled in a special school where I studied English as my second language. My parents ensured that after school I would attend piano class and end the day with ballet. That’s where it all started – my passion for performing arts, as well as an introduction to the discipline it takes to be in that world. Later on, I picked up an acoustic guitar and taught myself how to play and that’s when I started writing songs as well. I also took drum classes. In my teen years, I was a lead singer in a few rock bands, but deep down I always wanted to have my solo music project. Around 2015 our song, produced by my friend and fellow music artist Jahkarta, took off and got on the radio all over Russia and some parts of Europe, right after I got my Bachelor’s degree at St Petersburg State University. I was also working as a bartender at the gym at the time, and I was talking to the universe asking for a change in my life. One year later I got a check for those radio plays which was worth half a year of my salary as a bartender. I knew exactly how I’m going to spend that money.
In 2016 I flew to Los Angeles by myself, with one piece of luggage and a thousand dollars in my pocket to explore and see what it’s really like out here. Now it’s been almost seven years since I’ve lived here, and I honestly feel like the real journey is just about to start.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has been anything but easy. I had to constantly strive and fight for what I have now. I am truly from a completely different world than this LA land. And the fight is still on. I had to make tough choices along the way, and certain sacrifices, like being away from my family and dealing with the sense of alienation daily. One of the biggest challenges in this industry in general is to be able to start over and over again. To build it all up, and then watch it crumble, and yet choose not to give up. Stop, recharge, gain new knowledge, reinvent your spiritual hygiene, reinvent your brand, and start building up again.
However, I am a firm believer that we choose our journey. If it doesn’t come easily – that’s our own choice too, we are not allowing it to happen on a deeper level. And the only answer is within. I choose to move with a deep sense of gratitude for every challenge. You always come out stronger, more competent, more self-aware, and with a few amazing friends.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My main project is ‘Daria V’ – my personal brand as a Pop Music Artist. I released my debut single ‘Tongue Tied’ last year, along with the music video and a remix. A couple of months ago we dropped an EP ‘Wicked Games’ with Dear Humans, Sarkis Mikael and Dekado, consisting of a house version and a downtempo version of Chris Isaac’s ‘Wicked Game’ classics. I am currently preparing to drop my next single along with the music video, hopefully at the end of this spring.
Aside from being a Music Artist, I always wanted to be independent and run my own business, but somewhat music-related. Over the years I tried a lot of different things, and one of my favorite projects was an Instagram page called CoverWorldWide. I created and curated this online community for a year or so during my university years. I would post singers, host giveaways and promote people’s music. I managed to even earn some side money. Years later, when I was already living in Los Angeles, I decided to revisit the idea of having an online community like this but on a bigger scale. That’s when 2HZ Projects was born. I met my business partner and an amazing film director, Ani Agassi, and we clicked instantly. We decided to create an online platform and we started filming live performances. We were lucky enough to have such amazing artists like Diamond White (Disney), Jacob Luttrell (Grammy – Winning Artist), Nicole Row (Panic At The Disco), and Althea Grace(American Idol) on board. Right now this project is on pause, as I am trying to figure out further direction for it, but I cannot wait to get back to filming.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The further I go in life, the more I understand that people matter most. Family, friends, community, real-life experiences, unity, and all the simple things we humans enjoy – that’s what matters. Love matters.
