Today we’d like to introduce you to William Schopp
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started The Movement Schopp, my performance physical therapy practice, in May 2020 with a clear mission:
– To redefine physical therapy for everyday athletes who refuse to settle for outdated care.
– To build something special with an incredible, like-minded team.
– To create a life of impact—both for my family and for the people we serve.
I started in a small office at Cabrillo Beach Marina in San Pedro, fueled by a vision and a deep frustration with the way active people were being treated. I kept seeing runners with knee pain, golfers with back issues, and gym-goers with shoulder problems all getting the same dismissive advice: You’re just getting older. Rest more. Ice it. Slow down. Stop working out. Or worse, they were pushed toward unnecessary injections and surgeries.
That didn’t sit right with me.
I knew there had to be a better way—so I built it. The Movement Schopp, now in Torrance, became a place where everyday athletes don’t just fix injuries; they keep moving, keep training, and keep pushing their limits. Now, with a team of six Doctors of Physical Therapy, we’ve helped over 1,300 athletes in the South Bay stay pain-free and stay performing at their best.
The best part is we are getting amazing results for our clients and we’re having a blast doing it!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I love the saying, “Hard now, easy later. Easy now, hard later.” Like anything worth doing, the road hasn’t been smooth—but that’s part of the process. Every challenge is just a lesson in disguise, meant to refine us, not stop us.
We’ve faced the same struggles most growing businesses do—expanding too fast, growing too slow, searching for the right people to join our team. But without those lessons, we wouldn’t be anywhere near the level we are today. Every obstacle has forced us to improve—our client experience, the results we deliver, our team culture, and the strength of our brand.
The way I see it, life happens for us, not to us. The South Bay community, our world-class team, and our amazing clients push us to keep leveling up every single day. We’re just getting started, and we can’t wait to keep serving everyday athletes for years to come!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Movement Schopp?
My business is The Movement Schopp, and we specialize in helping everyday athletes bounce back from injuries and get back to peak performance—without relying on rest, ice, or unnecessary procedures.
We focus on four key groups: functional fitness & CrossFit athletes, runners & triathletes, golfers, and youth athletes. Our team of six Doctors of Physical Therapy each has a unique niche in one of these areas, and what sets us apart is exactly what I’m most proud of—we practice what we preach. We don’t just treat athletes; we are athletes. Our Physical Therapists who work with runners are runners themselves. The ones working with CrossFit athletes train in local CrossFit gyms. Our golf specialists actually play golf. And those working with youth athletes played high-level high school and college sports.
We’re not just here to help you fix an injury—we help you keep going while you do it, training at a high level and getting back to what you love stronger than before. If you’re serious about solving what’s slowing you down and want to do it in a place with great energy, awesome vibes, high standards, and people who truly get it—then The Movement Schopp is for you.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
When I started The Movement Schopp almost five years ago, I didn’t know much—except that I was obsessed with helping people solve their problems. I’ve always been fascinated by growth, by seeing things improve and evolve for the better. That mindset has shaped everything I’ve built.
Over the years, I’ve also had the opportunity to work with over 100 business owners looking to create a brand like The Movement Schopp to serve the everyday athletes in their communities across the country. And I’ve seen three common mistakes that hold people back in the beginning:
1. Start for the right reasons. Your business should exist to make a real impact—to solve a problem that no one else is solving. If your main driver is making money or having more free time, you’re going to struggle. The most successful businesses are built on passion and purpose.
2. Know your people inside and out. If you want to serve a specific group—runners, CrossFit athletes, golfers—you need to be one of them. Play the sport, do the workouts, understand the movements. If you don’t practice what you preach, you won’t create the connections you need to truly help people succeed.
3. Know your numbers. Too many people over-leverage themselves without understanding how to make smart, data-driven decisions. It’s not all about the money, but without financial stability and a great understanding of your metrics, you won’t be able to serve the people who need you most.
At the end of the day, the most important thing is that you love what you do. When work feels like play, you can do it forever.
