Community Highlights: Meet Valerie Milano of The Hollywood Times

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valerie Milano.

Hi Valerie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a well-connected Senior Editor and Entertainment Critic at The Hollywood Times, showbiz/promotions aggregate. My mother worked in the industry. She taught me everything I know, seriously!

I have also written for Communications Daily in DC, Discover Hollywood, Hollywood Today, Television International, and Video Age International in NYC.

I donate money and sometimes volunteer closely with Human Rights Campaign (Fed Club Council Member), LAMBDA Legal and The LGBTQ Center of the Desert and DAP Health.

I am also a member of the LA Press Club.

In the past I was a lay minister and parishioner of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hollywood.

I love meeting people, and I do so in my getaway home in Palm Springs as a member of the Palm Springs Museum, Palm Springs Center and DAP Health (Partners for Life member).

For years I had volunteered as a board member and one of the chief organizers for the Television Critics Association’s press tours. The tours which took place twice a year in Beverly Hills/Pasadena before Covid.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I came to LA to model and couldn’t get an agent. Did alot of freelance work but the casting couch situation turned me off.

I started working for an advertising agency which gave me a leg up for my writing. My boss gave me the website name and I have been hiring (No money) people that want to work for me just so they can have exposure and a byline. I need to get monetized but my readership and social media followers have been too low.

We’ve been impressed with The Hollywood Times, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started The Hollywood Times entertainment website. It has grown alot and I have a lot of folks on my team who don’t mind working for free for me to help it succeed.

I have alot of competition with my site – Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Deadline etc

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I love to travel and get away to learn about other cultures. My friends and family can bring me alot of happiness.
