Hi Sophia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
after 25 years and retiring from FedEx i decided to become a mobile notary to continue my desire to give quality customer service I am an independent Notary Public and Loan Signing agent Certified and background checked. You can verify my credentials as a California notary , and as a Notary Stars member. For many years as a loan processor I was able to perfect my craft and understand the mortgage industry, in 2022 I decided to open SME Notary to provide the customer service that clients expect . SME Notary offers general notary work, Loan singing Services, Translations and Apostilles to handle all of our customers’ needs. My motto is “Do it right the first time” and will be there to assist in all notarial matters.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

It has definitely been an up-and-down journey. Being a notary in the Los Angeles and Orange County market is not easy, as clients have many options to choose from. It’s one of the most competitive markets, which means standing out is essential. Providing consistent, high-quality service, clear communication, and flexibility to meet clients’ needs has been key. While the road hasn’t always been smooth, those challenges have pushed me to grow, adapt, and continuously improve my services.

We’ve been impressed with SME Mobile Notary, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My name is Sophia Edison-Smith, and I am an independent Notary Public, Certified Trust Signing Delivery Agent, Apostille Agent, and Loan Signing Agent. I am fully certified, background-checked, and a proud graduate of Loan Signing System (LSS) and Notary2Pro, as well as a continuing education member of Notary Stars and Fidelity Direct approved.

I specialize in general notary work, GNW, trust signings with or without an attorney, apostilles, and a wide range of loan signings, including HELOCs, purchases, seller packages, reverse mortgages, refinances, construction, and commercial loans.

Before becoming a notary, I spent many years working as a loan processor, which allowed me to truly understand the mortgage industry from the inside out. That experience helped me perfect my craft and prepared me to confidently guide borrowers through even the most complex signings.

In 2022, I opened SME Notary with a clear goal: to provide the level of professionalism, communication, and customer service that clients expect and deserve. SME Notary offers mobile notary services, loan signing services, and apostilles to meet all of our clients’ needs.

With $100,000 in E&O coverage, mobile service throughout Los Angeles, Orange County, and parts of San Bernardino County, and over 800 successful signings completed this year, I understand that trust, reliability, and excellent customer service are key to every successful signing.

What matters most to me is knowing my clients are happy and truly satisfied with my work. Every signing, notarization, or apostille often represents an important moment in someone’s life or business, and I don’t take that responsibility lightly. I focus on clear communication, patience, and flexibility so my clients feel confident and supported throughout the process. When a client walks away feeling relieved, informed, and well taken care of, I know I’ve done my job right—and that’s what motivates me every day.
