Community Highlights: Meet Shawn Schroeder of Aquatic gardens LLC and ChikuShin-shakuhachi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawn Schroeder.

Hi Shawn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started at a very young age around 12 building and designing Japanese gardens and Koi Ponds, in my parents backyard that quickly grew into more interest into Japanese culture, I’ve painted many Japanese landscapes have been associated with Bonsai clubs and have also been interested in the art of traditional Bamboo flutes known as Shakuhachi, I now have two working businesses one for servicing Koi Pond’s in the greater Los Angeles area for many celebrities. I also make and sell Shakuhachi bamboo flutes as well as teach how to play them. I’m pretty much nonstop busy doing all these activities. It is my life’s passion.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
of course there are many ups and downs, but it’s in general just has been slowly building up through the years

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Aquatic gardens LLC and ChikuShin-shakuhachi ?
With aquatic gardens, we specialize in Koi Pond’s filtration health and of aquatic life, Koi and aquatic plants in general sustaining a biological ecosystem. We service and maintain mini prized gardens in the Hollywood Hills.

With ChikuShin, it is our passion to construct, beautiful crafted professional level Shakuhachi/traditional bamboo. It has brought me to travel many times back-and-forth to Japan and meet mini masters 3 to 4 generations families of shakuhachi making a playing the instruments. I travel during the harvesting season for the material
/bamboo to make. Shakuhachi. Sell through my website and word of mouth to many people around the world.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Generally, I just see opportunities as they come and take action, the downside is people often want to block you or get in your way possibly out of jealousy or I’m not sure what, has been the most negatives but in general opportunities come and you take them!

Pricing:

• Koi can range depending on quality anywhere from 60 bucks to 10,000
• Handcrafted shakuhachi can range from 2000 all the way to 10,000 depending on quality and finishes
