Community Highlights: Meet Shaila Paredes of Brows by Shaila

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaila Paredes.

Hi Shaila, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my career almost 20 years ago. Once I graduated High School, I attended Newberry School of Beauty where I received my Esthetician license. From there I was fortunate to be able to apprentice under Eugenia Weston, owner of Senna Cosmetics. After Senna, I decided to work at MAC cosmetics and as much as I loved being a makeup artist, I knew I wanted to continue doing brows. I was able to work for Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow bar and Kelley Baker Brows. In 2013, I realized I was ready to venture out on my own and decided to open my own studio at Sola Salons Brentwood where I have been for the past nine years.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like in any new business, there was the challenge of building a clientele, especially in a place where there were no walk-ins, so the first year was a little bit of a challenge. Fortunately through word of mouth, I was able to grow and still continue to grow and stay busy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Brows by Shaila inc?
I started my business in 2013. I specialize in Brow artistry and I would say I am known for creating full and natural brows. I think what sets me apart is a few things. First is that I try and create a very welcoming and relaxing space. A lot of my clients come in and tend to fall asleep while I am doing their brows and I love that because it lets me know they are relaxed. Second, I love being able to create a fuller and natural looking brow by enhancing one’s natural shape instead of trying to change it. That is very important to me. After the brow shaping if there is a product that I think would benefit the client I will have the client hold the mirror so they can see what and how I am applying it. I like to not only provide a service but educate them as well. I want every client to leave my studio loving their brows and feeling confident that they can recreate the look at home.

What are your plans for the future?
I definitely am always thinking about what is next and although I don’t know what that is at the moment, I am excited and looking forward to it.
