Today we’d like to introduce you to Rj Full Range
Hi RJ Full Range, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in Altadena/ Pasadena. I started young, teaching myself to DJ. DJing led to learning to mix and the desire to make music started to grow. I admired people like Dr. Dre & DJ Quik then. I went through different rap groups and singing groups. I would begin recording the groups with my little rinky dink equipment at the time.
Later, 1 of my groups would be produced by R&B sensation, Jon B. This was before he signed with Babyface. After he did get signed, the group split up. They would go on to tour with Jon and that pushed me to get more production and recording gear. I would start to rent out studio time from my apartment. I would also get an opportunity to produce my first “real” project with a group linked to DJ Quik and was supposed to be signing to Death Row Records (but never did). I got to spend 12 hour days in Hollywood Sound Studios, learning from the engineers there. I went from Dena to Alhambra to the Inland Empire. Later I would join forces with a guy I worked with (at my day job) and we became production partners and produced my first real CD with my wife and another friend as a group. The production partnership led to us connecting with our first sync placement opportunity. The rap group turned into another rap group and that let to me quitting my last job and focusing on music full time. We met a lot of people, learned a lot about the industry, but the group would eventually break up. This was about the time I got my first building to have my studio in. I learned a lot about building business during this time. I would eventually build a pretty big clientele and earn a name for myself in the Moreno Valley area.
During all this time I had the opportunity to work with many artists on the rise and established artists like Marcus Black (now on Hip-Hop Hollywood) and Silkk The Shocker (brother of Master P). I continued producing, engineering and making songs for sync placements.
Recently, I opened my 2nd studio in Montclair, CA. Today my focus has been on building clientele for the new studio and broadening my tv/ film/ sync opportunities. I’ve had probably close to 100 tv/ film placements featuring myself and a nice handful of local talented artists I work with pretty regularly.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, lol. When I got my first building, I had pretty much spent everything I had to get it. I had some clientele but not enough to really sustain the business. It took years of struggle and grind to build consistent clientele. I proudly say that my business was built off of about 95% word-of-mouth. My skills and equipment got better and better and the word spread. I would also help mentor a lot of my clients, using my years of learning and experience. It took about 5 years to really get solid footing with my studio business. A few really sad Christmases, lol.
We’ve been impressed with Full Range Studios , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Today I have Full Range Studio in Moreno Valley (FullRangeStudio.com) and Full Range Studio B in Montclair (FullRangeStudioB.com).
I feel like my niche is efficiency. Using all of the things I’ve learned along the way, I have my studios set up to make the recording process super efficient. I’ve developed recording templates that make me and my engineers faster than many studios while keeping the quality high. We specialize in hip-hop, RnB, & pop mostly but we’re open to all genres. We don’t have any hidden costs or unwanted surprises. We pretty much include everything in the hourly rate.
I’ve developed such a name for myself in the Moreno Valley/ Riverside area for being the go-to guy/ studio… I hope to do the same with Studio B.
I’m most proud of the value I/ we provide. The quality you get is more than worth the price and value/ expertise and care we provide is way above average. And as for me (in Moreno Valley) I’m an open book as far as advice and assistance in the artist/ production process. I often help my clients with production as well. I can say confidently, there’s no better value as far as local studios.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
As far as business, I would say value and honesty. When you build your business upon these, it keeps clients coming back. Even when they “stray” they often experience something that will have them returning. I’ve always done honest business, sometimes even to a fault. My people know they can depend on me and trust in what I say.
