Today we’d like to introduce you to Miekala Lomack.

Hi Miekala, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into hair artistry wasn’t a straight line; it was a return to my roots. Because my mother suffered from carpal tunnel, I had to learn to navigate my own hair journey starting in elementary school. Watching professionals in salons became my classroom, and I found myself studying their techniques to perfect my look at home. While I initially pursued a career in fashion design, creating clothes and handbags; I realized that every creative path I took eventually led back to hair. Whether I was designing hair clips or accessories, my passion for the “complete look” was undeniable.
I eventually launched a hair business called Luxe Hair Trapper, but selling bundles alone didn’t fulfill my creative soul. It wasn’t until I took the leap to learn wig installation myself that everything clicked. What started as a way to save money became my therapy. I fell in love with the process, the precision, and the peace it brought me. I invested in my craft through hours of YouTube, professional classes, and e-learning to ensure I could offer nothing but excellence.
Today, Improper Hair is the evolution of that passion. To me, being “Improper” means going against the rules. It’s about thinking outside the box, being creative, and staying classy while remaining fiercely unique. I am on a mission to become one of the greats, inspired by the technique and grace of icons like Arrogant Tae, Hair Physician, and Shani Wigs, just to name a few.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey to mastery hasn’t been without its obstacles. From struggling to lay the lace perfectly to navigating the complexities of color matching and secure adhesion, I’ve faced every challenge imaginable. However, those experiences were my greatest teachers. Through extensive training and constant growth, I’ve turned those early hurdles into the high-end techniques I use today to ensure every install is flawless.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was when we used to just be outside with all the our friends and cousins, playing tag, flag football, cops and robbers. Those days were the best.
