Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Conway.
Hi Michelle , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I feel like the luckiest girl ever as I was able to turn my passion into a career. I started volunteer work with animal organizations at the age of 8, knowing at a young age that I wanted to work with animals. As I got older, my opportunities put me in the corporate world and I didn’t begin to think outside of this bubble until I started taking my own dog on very long walks every afternoon…I thought I could take this on a little bit here and there. I created a flyer (that looked like it was drawn up by a 10 year old) and showed it to my cousin. She happened to own a digital print company and gifted me a logo. It was official and in 2 weeks I had a full client list (from Craigslist!) and left my corporate job and never looked back. 18 years and over 600 clients later, I still wake up giddy everyday that this is my life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been remarkably smooth. I really believe it was all meant to be even tho I had not planned for it. Honestly, I had things easier when I first started as social media didn’t exist and branding yourself wasn’t this huge competitive arena for this industry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
This is such a personal business. I’m in your home, sleeping in your bed, caring for your furry baby…its an honor to be so entrusted with all of this, I definitely don’t take it for granted. I think my reliability, responsiveness, and trust worthiness really established my name. I genuinely do what I love and love what I do and coupled with my work ethic (I’m not afraid of hard work, or a lot of work) helped my success. I get to love on and be loved on by these special, unconditional beings, and in return, my business has afforded me a beautiful, fulfilling, rewarding life…on my terms. From chickens in Bel Air, to chinchillas in an apartment in Palms, and every doggie and kitty in between, it really is a dream job! I work 7 days a week and wouldn’t trade it for anything.
What’s next?
I’m just excited by the fact that I haven’t yet met all of the animals that I get to share the love with. Lucky me 🙂
