Community Highlights: Meet Lowri Taylor of Taylor Hypnotherapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lowri Taylor.

Hi Lowri, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started working in the software industry here in California in the late nineties. It was an exciting and expansive time and I worked in the high technology space for 25+ years. In early 2023, my path took a different direction and I departed the world of Corporate America. It was time in my life to do some introspection because I knew there was more to my life and purpose than the high-tech world of software. It was an intresting journey of candid self-reflection and soul-searching that lasted many months. During that period, I learned to relinquish the need to control my environment and learned instead, to surrender to life and allowing things to unfold as they should. This was a slow, sometimes exasperating, often frustrating experience with ups and downs….. more downs than ups. Slowly, the fog dissipated and I finally realized that my purpose in life was to serve others.

It was soon after getting clarity of purpose that I got the opportunity to learn about the practice of Hypnotherapy. For the first time in my life, I felt this was a perfect fit and jumped in with both feet. The more I learned, the more interested and committed I became to pursuing this path as my new vocation. My mission became to provide services that help others live more fulfilling lives free of behaviors that block them from having their best life experience. I was thrilled to establish my Hypnotherapy practice in January of 2025.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting this business was a huge step but the biggest struggle I encounter is overcoming the common misconceptions people have with Hypnosis. I can totally relate with these misconceptions because I held them myself at one time. The most common one I hear is that a person, when under hypnosis is no longer in control or their mind, thoughts or actions. In actuality, the opposite is true. When under hypnosis, a person remains in control of all these aspects, but often becomes less inhibited under hypnosis and become more open to suggestion that can help change long-seated unwanted behaviours.

Another really important thing to understand is how and why Hypnotherapy is as fast and effective as it is for treating fears, and phobias. How does it work? Well, our human mind is made up of our Concious mind and our Unconcious mind. It is often a surprise to know that the unconcious mind (sometimes referred to as the Subconcious mind) occcupies < 90% of our mind and is the seat of our emotions and nearly ALL of our behavior. This part of our mind holds all our wisdom, memories and intelligence and helps regulate boy maintenance and autonomic functions like breathing, blood circulation and tissue regeneration. It is no surprise therefore that since hypnotherapy provides a way to speak directly with the Unconscious mind, that we can say "I'd like for you to change that behaviour or I would like you to be able to do this instead of that...", provided we communicate it correctly, the unconscious mind goes "Okay".

We’ve been impressed with Taylor Hypnotherapy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Taylor Hypnotherapy offers therapeutic services using the power of hypnosis. Hypnotherapy can support a wide range of psychological, emotional, and physical issues—especially those related to habit change, stress, and subconscious behavior patterns. Below are some of the most common areas I focus on in my practice:

Fears, Phobias, and Anxiety
Hypnotherapy is often a fast and effective way to manage fears and phobias, such as fear of flying, spiders, or public speaking. It also helps reduce anxiety by promoting deep relaxation and shifting negative thought patterns—making it a useful tool for improving sleep and overcoming insomnia.

Smoking Cessation
Hypnosis can help people quit smoking by changing the subconscious associations with nicotine. Through behavioral reconditioning, it reduces cravings and builds motivation—two key elements for successful quitting.

Overeating and Weight Management
Hypnotherapy can address emotional eating, improve portion control, and boost motivation for making healthier choices. It’s a gentle but powerful tool for long-term weight management.

Pain Management
For chronic issues like migraines or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), hypnosis can help by reframing how the brain perceives pain, offering relief and better quality of life.

Performance and Motivation
Whether you’re preparing for an exam or training for a sport, hypnosis can help reduce anxiety, build confidence, and increase focus. It also supports goal setting and motivation, making it easier to stay on track and succeed.

What are your plans for the future?
Over time, I hope to grow my practice in a way that allows me to reach a wider audience and help many more people find the relief they need from habits or behaviors that are holding them back from achieving a higher quality of life. By identifying and addressing these self-limiting conditions, I can empower others to make changes that lead to a more joyful and fulfilling life.
