Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Colón.
Hi Liz, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into the photo booth industry started in the most personal way possible — planning my daughter Rio’s quinceañera in 2023. As I searched for a photo booth that understood the cultural significance of the celebration, I realized there was a real gap in the market for culturally competent, high-quality photo booth experiences, especially for Latino families.
With 15 years of corporate experience under my belt, I took the leap and founded Captured Celebrations. What started as a passion project quickly grew into a thriving business. In just two years, we’ve completed over 500 events, partnering with prestigious venues like Four Seasons, Castaway Burbank, and The Langham Pasadena.
Along the way, we’ve earned industry recognition — including Best Wedding Photo Booth 2025, Best Single Operator 2024, and shortlisting for Booth Mastermind Awards in Best Newcomer and Best Corporate Event categories. We’ve expanded our offerings from classic open air booths to cutting-edge AI photo booths and trading card activations.
Today, I’m building Captured Celebrations into more than just a photo booth company — we’re creating memorable, inclusive experiences for every client, whether it’s a wedding, corporate event, or milestone celebration. I’m also deeply involved in my local business community through the Burbank and Montrose chambers of commerce, and I’m preparing for the LA Bridal Expo in March 2026 as we continue to grow.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been building a business while working full-time and being the primary caregiver for two daughters on the autism spectrum. Balancing corporate responsibilities, IEP meetings, advocacy work, and growing a business requires a level of time management and resilience I didn’t know I had.
Starting as a solo operator in a competitive LA market was tough. Established competitors had years of reviews, extensive city coverage, and bigger budgets. I had to get creative — leveraging SEO, building genuine vendor relationships, and letting the quality of my work speak for itself rather than trying to outspend the competition.
There were also industry-specific hurdles. Navigating vendor platforms that generate fake leads, learning the technical side of equipment and software on the fly, and handling the physical demands of loading, transporting, and setting up heavy equipment — often by myself — tested me constantly.
Being a Latina entrepreneur in an industry where representation is limited came with its own challenges. I had to carve out space and prove that culturally competent, high-end photo booth experiences were not just needed but in demand.
Through it all, what kept me going was the “why” behind the business — creating joyful, inclusive experiences for families celebrating their most important moments, just like I wanted for my own daughter’s quinceañera.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Captured Celebrations is a premium photo booth entertainment company serving the greater Los Angeles area. We specialize in creating memorable, interactive experiences for weddings, quinceañeras, corporate events, and milestone celebrations.
What sets us apart is our range of offerings and our commitment to cultural inclusivity. We go beyond the standard photo booth — our services include classic Open Air Booths, elegant Retro Mirror Booths, Studio Quality Booths, cutting-edge AI Photo Booths, custom trading card activations, and audio guestbooks. Every experience is tailored to reflect our clients’ unique vision and cultural traditions.
As a Latino-owned, woman-owned business, we bring a personal understanding to multicultural celebrations that many competitors simply can’t. Whether it’s a quinceañera in East LA or a corporate gala at the Four Seasons, we deliver the same level of professionalism, creativity, and heart.
What I’m most proud of is the recognition we’ve earned in just two years — Best Wedding Photo Booth 2025, Best Single Operator 2024, and shortlisted for Booth Mastermind Awards in Best Newcomer and Best Corporate Event. We’ve completed over 500 events and built trusted partnerships with premier venues like Castaway Burbank, The Langham Pasadena, and Arden by Adi.
We’re also deeply rooted in our community, actively involved with the Burbank and Montrose chambers of commerce, and committed to supporting local events and families.
Our readers should know that Captured Celebrations isn’t just a vendor — we’re a partner in making your most important moments unforgettable.
How do you think about luck?
I believe luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity — and I’ve experienced both sides of that coin.
The “good luck” in my journey was really a series of moments where I was ready when doors opened. Planning my daughter Rio’s quinceañera led me to discover a gap in the market I never would have seen from a corporate desk. That personal experience turned into a business idea, and because I had 15 years of professional skills behind me, I was equipped to run with it. Early on, connecting with the right venue coordinators and vendor networks opened doors to high-end events that gave Captured Celebrations credibility fast. Being shortlisted for Booth Mastermind Awards in our first couple of years felt like one of those moments where hard work and timing aligned perfectly.
The “bad luck” has shown up too. Building a business during a time of rising costs, navigating an industry where some major platforms generate questionable leads, and facing the everyday unpredictability of event work — equipment issues, last-minute client changes, weather for outdoor events — has tested my patience and adaptability more than once.
But honestly, the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that what looks like bad luck often redirects you somewhere better. Every challenge forced me to innovate, whether it was leaning into SEO and digital marketing instead of relying on pay-to-play platforms, or developing new service offerings like AI photo booths to stay ahead of the competition. I don’t wait for luck — I create my own opportunities and stay ready for what comes next.
