Today we’d like to introduce you to Lissette Orozco.

Lissette Orozco

Hi Lissette, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started as an aspiring girl with dreams of being a change for the community. I had a love for beauty and skin at such a young age, but coming from a Hispanic home, that was never a calling for a career. So, as the eldest of 4, I decided to make an impact in my family and grew to make my own choices no matter the circumstances. I love and enjoy helping others in which it took me to take a career in the medical field, I became a mom at the age of 19 years old but as the old folk tales says having kids stops you from pursuing your goals and dreams. That wasn’t the case for me, I took the leap of faith to enroll in Medical Assisting school and get my certification, my daughter was 3 months old when I decided to pursue a career in health care. I completed the program in just 10 months, and I quickly moved along the field from endocrinology, family care, administration & oncology. I did almost 5 years in the field until I hit rock bottom and went into a distressed time of my life. Now with 2 children at hand, I wavered with my thoughts as to what else I wanted to pursue. I said it’s my time to actually do what I wanted for myself and not for others. I then decided to pursue my calling and love for skin and beauty. With just a little pain, that can turn everything into power. I enrolled in esthetics, juggled 3 jobs, and completed the program after a year. Although there was struggles in the midst of the years. Fast forward to today I am now 6 years strong in the Beauty Industry as an Esthetician, Lash Artist & Educator.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the last 6 years of my career in aesthetics it has not been a smooth road, as an entrepreneur you wear many hats Iam a mom, A therapist to my clients, an editor friend, sister & daughter, but being a mom will always come first. I started from a spare bedroom then moved out and was working from my living room to then transferring over to my dining area. The hardest part of working as a solo artist was trying to work around my children being home due to COVID. I had my son hanging from my leg every chance he got; some of my clients can vouch for me!

Another struggle was juggling school, 2 part-time jobs, being Mom & building your clientele, and sustaining it with everything else going on around you.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Ava Beauty Lounge LLC was created and inspired by my daughter Ava; she has always been my motivation. I started off taking a brow threading class in 2015 and never did a damn thing with it because of fear. Until I saw a gal on Instagram doing individual lash extensions in 2016 and was like, heck, why not ask her if she would teach me? So, I took her course and let me tell you I thought it would be easy to just place lashes on someone’s eye but it definitely wasn’t. Individual Lash Extensions are my niche, but I also specialize in brow mapping and threading; what I think that sets me apart from others is that I cater to a more subtle natural clientele. I get creative and speak life into my client while they are laying in my chair. My proudest moment was being able to obtain a storefront in the city of San Pedro and innovate my product line of Lash Supplies. We are all worthy of this thing called Purpose, so keep going and never settle for less than what you are called to do. Also, permanent makeup services will be back soon, so stay tuned!

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
