Today we’d like to introduce you to Krista Walsh.
Hi Krista, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In college, I thought I wanted to work in the book publishing industry. I loved books — it seemed perfect. But after a few years of internships and jobs in the industry, I realized how much it wasn’t aligned with who I was. The corporate space (and even indie publishers FELT corporate to me), was deadening.
So I moved to Spain to teach English part-time while I figured out what I wanted to do. While there, I started freelancing in anything related to writing and editing; I ghostwrote mass-market novels, edited self-published manuscripts, and proofread ebooks. And along the way, I discovered something called copywriting.
When I moved back to the States to Los Angeles, I decided to try my hand at freelancing full-time. It made business sense to zero in on a type of work, so I chose what I liked best (and paid best): copywriting. Over the next 4 years, I continued to niche further to where I focus now: Website copywriting for service-based businesses.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It felt smooth in the sense that the lifestyle is so much better for my mental health and happiness than working in an office setting was. I love being able to set my own hours, wake up without an alarm, spend most of the day alone (major introvert here), and save my social energy for friendship outings.
But there have definitely been challenges:
– Imposter syndrome at each new level (niching further, raising prices, experimenting with new marketing channels).
– Cashflow challenges as I figured out how to stabilize my income.
– Feeling alone until I met other creative freelancers!
– The general pressure of having to be your own boss and direct your own time (it’s so worth it, but sometimes it’s a challenge).
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a website copywriter and strategist for client-based businesses, which means that I write your website so that you not only attract more clients but also the right clients, the kind who are confident they want to work with you — and won’t settle for anyone else.
As a result, your website goes from “existing” to a lead-generating machine working for you around the clock. And you can get back to focusing on your craft, business, and impact!
My clients have gone on to book 4-figure services straight from their website without sales calls and rank in the top 5 of Google search results for competitive search terms.
How do you think about happiness?
The beach — a cliche, but nothing soothes me like being near the ocean.
Also, any and every dog. I love the way they play and live and love without inhibition.
