Hi Kevin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The Signing Resource was started out of necessity for me to continue living. It dawned on me one afternoon that after spending over a month in the hospital with a nearly fatal disease and suffering through nearly 5 years of unemployment, it was time for a new journey.
I spent a large amount of time in my career helping others. I needed to continue that in my next career move. Being 60 years old and looking for new employment can be overwhelming. I spent 25 years as a recruiter or headhunter for large companies helping people find new opportunities in the working world. Now I needed help and couldn’t find it. That’s when it hit me like a brick, Mobile Notary is my next adventure! I was tired of interviewing for recruiting positions that I was overqualified for or not really interested in. I was slowly realizing my days in recruiting were basically over as I knew it.
One afternoon I was relaxing in my backyard, my private sanctuary, and while reading, I came across an article and almost dismissed it. I thought it was a “get rich quick” read about making six-figures in one year but it was a legit article. I read on and I was immediately hooked on this person’s story about graduating from UCLA and not wanting to follow the traditional path of a recent grad. Her father was involved in real estate, and she thought she wanted something to do with real estate, but she wasn’t sure what. She had known during school that some of her friends made extra income by performing real estate closings by becoming Notary Publics and doing closings part time. They were making nearly $200 per signing when a mobile notary was needed! I started to process all of what was required, and I knew immediately I had what it would take to be a successful notary public, specifically a “mobile notary.” Customer service, sales, and just helping people in need has and always will be my calling.
Two years into The Signing Resource, my mobile notary service which serves the South Bay, is thriving! I’m adding new customers every month who have since become repeat customers. I have a knack for connecting with people and I’m not afraid to network and I’m not shy about telling people what I do, and how I can help them as a mobile notary. I thought that for people to remember me, and being from the great South Bay beach cities area, I would be known as the RAD mobile notary. Reliable, Accurate, and Discreet! So far so good!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s always a struggle looking for new business. As a Notary Public, I recognize that I’m interchangeable. In California there are one notary for every 245 residents. I need to stand apart from my competition. It takes a lot of marketing, and a lot a luck!
We’ve been impressed with The Signing Resource, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Signing Resource is a convenient mobile notary service. We specialize in Real Estate signing services and Trust and Will delivery. We also perform many general notary services as well. Our service area is basically San Pedro to El Segundo, essentially the South Bay. We are based in Redondo Beach and are available 24/7 for notary assignments. I’m a certified loan signing agent which allows me to perform complex real estate signings. I work closely with hospitals and senior care facilities. Those assignments are mostly comprised of Trust & Will, Power of Attorney or (POA) and Advance Healthcare Directive or (AHCD) delivery. I’m known as The RAD mobile notary…Reliable, Accurate, and Discreet. Those qualities are what I consider essential for an excellent customer service experience.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Driving my dad’s car at the age of 8! You would have to ask for details!!
