Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Lopes.
Hi Katy , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey with Halu—and really, my personal journey—began long before the business existed.
I was born and raised in Brazil, deeply connected to nature, spirituality, and the simple magic of community. When I moved to California, that longing for connection and purpose only grew stronger. Becoming a mother to my daughter Lyra awakened something even deeper in me: a desire to create spaces where people could feel held, inspired, and reminded of their own light.
Halu started very humbly—just me, crystals from Brazil, and a vision to share beauty, healing, and heart. What began as small pop-ups slowly blossomed into Halu Crystal Shop, and from there expanded organically into Halu Wellness & Healing Spot, Halu Media, and even our family’s renovation/design branch. Every branch of Halu carries the same intention: Ground, Heal, Rise.
A huge part of our story is also Mt. Shasta, a place that changed my life. The energy there has guided so much of my creativity—from our crystal collections to the children’s book I’m writing about crystals and Lyra, to the way we design spaces that feel like sanctuaries. It’s where I reconnect with my purpose and the reason I do this work.
Today, Halu is a true family business. My husband Lucas and I run it together while raising our daughter. We source crystals from trusted sources in Brazil, host community classes and healing events, support local instructors, and continue building a space where people feel seen, welcomed, and supported—whether they come for a crystal, a sound bath, a kids’ class, or simply to breathe.
It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been incredibly meaningful. Every step—every customer, every class, every crystal we wrap and send out—feels like part of a much bigger mission. And I’m grateful every day that I get to live it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road definitely hasn’t been smooth—and I’m actually grateful for that, because every challenge shaped Halu into what it is today.
As a small family-owned business, we’ve had to learn everything hands-on. From navigating unpredictable foot traffic, managing inventory, and balancing multiple roles, to figuring out marketing, events, and finances without a big team behind us. There were moments we questioned if we were doing enough, or if people would understand our vision.
Another challenge has been balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship. Raising a little one while building a business rooted in healing and community requires a lot of presence, flexibility, and trust. There were days I was running between a toddler, a sound bath, and a crystal shipment from Brazil all at once.
We’ve also faced the normal ups and downs that come with growing a wellness space—classes with low attendance, last-minute cancellations, people not returning, unexpected expenses, seasonality, and the emotional weight of wanting to hold space for others even when we were tired ourselves.
And, of course, being an immigrant entrepreneur adds its own layer of learning: understanding a new culture, building community from scratch, and running a business far from family and familiar systems of support.
But through all of it, the mission has stayed strong.
Every struggle taught us resilience.
Every setback helped refine our vision.
Every “slow day” reminded us to trust the process.
And every person who walked through our doors showed us that what we’re creating truly matters.
Today, looking back, I see that the road wasn’t meant to be smooth—it was meant to make us who we are: heart-led, grounded, and committed to serving with love.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Halu Crystal Reiki?
Halu is more than a business—it’s a heart-led ecosystem built to help people feel grounded, healed, and inspired.
We started with Reiki and crystals, but quickly expanded into a full wellness and creative community space. Today, Halu includes:
✨ Halu Crystal Shop – Our crystal boutique featuring ethically sourced, high-vibration pieces from Brazil (museum-grade towers, points, clusters, and unique specimens). Every crystal is hand-selected with intention, and people often say the energy of the shop feels like home the moment they walk in.
✨ Halu Wellness & Healing Spot – A community-centered healing studio offering sound baths, yoga, children’s classes, breathwork, ceremonies, reiki sessions, and workshops. We collaborate with incredible instructors and facilitators to bring events that nurture mind, body, and spirit.
✨ Halu Media – Our creative branch where we produce storytelling, photography, and video content—capturing conscious content, wellness stories.
✨ Halu Place – Our design and home-improvement arm where we create spaces infused with love, nature, and crystal energy. From remodels to sacred-space design, we specialize in bringing warmth, beauty, and intention into homes.
Any big plans?
We’re entering a really exciting new chapter for Halu.
In the coming year, we plan to expand our wellness offerings with more yoga, sound baths, kids’ programs, and community events. We’re also preparing to release our children’s book Lyra and the Crystal Heart of Earth, which will grow into a whole series of mindful tools for families.
On the business side, we’re continuing to grow our crystal shop—both in person and online—and expanding our design/remodel branch, creating sacred, intentional spaces for our clients.
Overall, our focus is on deepening community, expanding healing services, and creating heart-led offerings that help people ground, heal, and rise. We’re excited for what’s unfolding.
