Today we’d like to introduce you to Juliana Vizcarra Maziarz
Hi Juliana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in SoCal, in the suburbs of LA (San Gabriel Valley). I was basically born into real estate. My grandfather came from Mexico to Los Angeles and worked in the garment industry but later started working in construction in Los Angeles and then eventually moved up near Yosemite and started building homes there. He taught my dad the real estate and construction trade and by the time my dad was 16 he was building his first home.
I was raised in a very entrepreneurial environment and watched my parents work hard to get where they wanted to be. Their drive and work ethic while maintaining balance, being generous and enjoying life has always been something I admired and wanted to achieve for myself.
I went to Caly Poly Pomona and earned my Bachelor’s in Business Admin. I obtained my Real Estate license shortly after that and started to delve into the world I had assisted my parents in for so many years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing good comes easy! There have been lots of ups and downs. The Real Estate industry is cyclical so in order to survive you have to know how to ride the wave. That involves preparing for a slower market by having savings and multiple sources of income. I’ve had to get creative with this and do things like rent our home out for commercial film shoots, staging listings for other realtors, run Airbnbs etc.
Also, going from partnering with my twin sister to having to run my business solo was a big challenge for me. I’m an extrovert and love building ideas working with good people so that shift was a bump in the road for me but, like all challenges, it made me stronger and pushed me to do things I would not have. I ended up eventually starting a team “The Girl & the Home”.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Girl & the Home?
We are an all woman, creative Real Estate team. We create an artistic and approachable experience for our clients, making the journey in buying or selling a home and enjoyable one.
It’s kind of funny because people think that real estate is only all about sales, but actually that’s not what I love about real estate; what I love about it is people and their experiences. One of my favorite lines in a song by a musician who I listen to all the time, is “in a world full of mouths, I want to be an ear…”
It’s really rewarding to be part of a person’s journey to one of the biggest milestones in their life. Sometimes that means being a therapist, but there’s nothing quite like sitting down and talking things out with a friend or a client (or both) about their journey to homeownership over a latte at Civil Coffee or a glass of wine at Little Ripper.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
So many! Currently reading the Founder’s Dilemma, loved the book “Radical Confidence”, my Dad had me ready “Rich Dad Poor Dad” while in middle school. LOL!
Podcasts – Mel Robbins is my favorite and also Create/Cultivate. On a personal level – I read the Bible every morning.
