Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnnette Johnston.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Middle Class family born in Virginia and grew up in Michigan. Always been a “Go-getter” had a job as soon as I turned 14. I grew up knowing that you have to Grind hard to get what you want. That is exactly what I did! Life was not peaches and cream. Some nights were tough. I remember lights turned off, sleeping in hotels, staying with family members and trying to make ends meet. I saw everything and decided that I have to make sure when I get older to HUSTLE. That’s exactly what I did and doing till this day. I started Blink Twice right after I left Tennessee State University in 2015. Started doing lashes in my parent’s basement. I grew and clientele grew as well. Meeting so many different people and going to seminars, I started doing my own Lash Classes, Pop up shops, speaking with the youth and mentoring younger girls. Without God none of this could be possible. I still have so much in store for my business that everyday I push myself to become better. It’s only the beginning!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life throws you stones and bricks but it’s your obedience to yourself to figure out ways to overcome them. The lack of support some years or the lack of financial stability had been a very tough obstacle but I have always found a way.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a certified lash technician that specializes in all things lashes such as extensions, lash lifts, strip lashes as well as individuals; also I sell lash supplies for other lash technicians. I also teach other inspiring lash techs.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Follow their journey not their pockets. Learn their lifestyle and how they present themselves to the world. That is how you should find a mentor.
