Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Peterson.
Hi Jessica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my business back in 2006. I wanted the freedom to do two things I loved, bookeeping and teaching dance. But a typical 9-5 job wouldn’t allow me to do that. When I met my ex-husband, I turned my bookkeeping business into a virtual business and moved to Hawaii. Since returning to California in 2018, I’ve tripled my business through word of mouth and one lead generating platform. I’ve grown so much in the past 7 years and I’m looking forward to even more growth in the near future.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The recession of 2008 hit my business hard. May companies were forced to downsize, and outsourced bookkeeping seemed like the first thing to go. But I’ve bonused back and am now bigger than I ever used to be.

My company provides virtual bookkeeping for small companies. Our motto is ‘making more time for you’…and whatever that means for each of our clients. By taking the mundane and tedious task of bookkeeping off our client’s plate allows them to focus on growing their own business or having some personal time for themselves. My company can provide the simple task of reconciling all types of accounts to payroll and month end/year end reporting. Being a dance teacher for the past 31 years, I have a number of dance studios as bookkeeping clients. I love being able to help my fellow creative arts clients keep their financial numbers straight. That also goes for my non-profit clients. Being in so many different industries keeps my days exciting.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Providing clean and accurate books for all of my clients. I’ve seen so many books that are a mess done by people that truly don’t know what they are doing. I take pride in creating clean and knowledgeable reports. I have even had client’s CPAs refer some of their other clients to me because my books are so clean.
