Community Highlights: Meet Jeff Bowler of Bowler Audio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Bowler

Hi Jeff, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I guess my story starts playing in bands in high school and being a part of the local punk scene. I spent most of my weekends going to shows, watching bands, making friends with musicians. When it came time to try to answer the question of “What do you want to do after high school?”, I knew there was no way I was going to make a living in a punk band. So, I started looking for ways to work in the music industry behind the scenes. In 2011, after graduating high school, I got my first recording studio internship at Magic Muse Studios in Costa Mesa. After that, I spent the next 10 years or so trying to learn everything I could about the music industry and how it worked. I played in bands, helped put on shows, learned live sound, recorded my friend’s bands, and did everything I could to immerse myself in the world of audio and production. That experience ultimately led me to where I am today.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing in the music industry is a smooth road. I feel like nothing worth doing is a smooth road, either. From just getting all the gear, spending the hours it takes learning and developing your craft, to building the confidence in yourself to be able to charge money, seek out new clients, quit your day job and take on the stress of running a small business. I guess for me the biggest struggle was just having the faith that everything was going to work out and I wouldn’t end up homeless or embarrassing myself.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Bowler Audio is a music production service that offers mixing and mastering to independent and underground musicians. In a nut shell, I help bands and artists, who are doing everything themselves, finish their songs. These days, tons of artists are recording and producing their own music at home. This allows them to create freely and express themselves artistically. However, many self-produced musicians lack the technical skills and know-how to take their songs from bedroom demos to professional sounding recordings. That’s where I come in. Once an artist has recorded their music, they send it to me to balance and enhance all the elements of their song sonically, making sure their art gets presented to the world in the best light possible.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I don’t know where the music industry is going to be 5 months from now, let alone 5 years from now. This industry is constantly changing. I know one thing’s for sure: people are going to continue to create great art and great music. People are going to continue to push the boundaries of what you can do with music and I’ll be here to help those people along the way.
