Community Highlights: Meet Jeesin Lui of Larchmont Traditional Medicine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeesin Lui.

Hi Jeesin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey in acupuncture and natural medicine actually began more than 30 years ago when I was plagued with chronic pain issues exacerbated by stress. Regular acupuncture treatments transformed my being into the picture of health that I had always wanted for myself, and I knew I wanted to learn more about this ancient healing technique. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in biology, I moved across the country to California for my graduate studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine, where I met my future husband and partner, Jim Bloomfield. We finished our 4-year program together, received our licenses, started our own family, and established Larchmont Traditional Medicine in Larchmont Village.

Our practice focuses on individualized personal treatment, addressing not just the symptom but the underlying cause of imbalance. Embracing a holistic approach, we believe in empowering the patient to take charge of their health and well-being, giving recommendations on diet and lifestyle that will also help support healing. We also believe in giving back to our community at large with our family of five, from volunteering at our local food pantry to helping build a local elementary school that provides educational opportunities to children of all socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. My own personal health struggles and transformational experience with this medicine inspired me to help others, and I feel so fortunate to be able to do something I love every single day – helping guide people toward their path to healing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were several bumps along the way that challenged me to evaluate if I was on the path I was meant to be. I am a natural introvert, so when I first started practicing, I struggled with building a patient base, marketing and putting myself out there. But my passion for this medicine eventually fueled the growth of my business as my practice started to spread through word of mouth alone, and I began to trust that the universe was helping me to fulfill my heart’s desire and purpose. Also, as I started having children of my own, the challenge of juggling a healthy home life and a successful career was something new I had to navigate. Eventually, I was able to find the balance that worked well for our growing family. A few years ago, I was sidelined with a serious back injury that had the potential to keep me from my practice and doing what fulfills me the most. The experience of being a patient again humbled me but also reaffirmed my belief in healing the body naturally, as I followed my prescriptions for myself with dedication and perseverance and was able to regain full mobility in a short amount of time.

Certainly, the pandemic was a huge challenge to our practice, as we faced the possibility of not being able to see patients face to face anymore. Through creativity and persistence, we discovered that despite everything, people were still in need of our care, and we were able to keep our practice open throughout the past 2 1/2 years through implementing safety protocols that protect both ourselves and our patients. Throughout all these challenges, I have grown both as a person and a practitioner, and those struggles and the determination that I had to tap into have made me stronger.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We pride ourselves in providing warm personalized natural health care that focuses on treating the root of an issue instead of just the manifestation. We treat the whole person and value building a trusted relationship with our patients to empower them to discover within themselves their path to healing. Our family practice on Larchmont Boulevard offers acupuncture, cupping, therapeutic bodywork, and herbs, as well as dietary and lifestyle recommendations for optimal wellness. My own passions include helping with stress reduction, teaching the value of food as medicine, and supporting women’s health, especially in the periods of time around conception, pregnancy, birth and new mothering. I love working with women to help guide them toward the ancient wisdom around womanhood and becoming nurturing parents.
