Community Highlights: Meet Jason Knight of The Knight Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Knight.

Hi Jason, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The road I’ve taken to where I am today has been winding.

If you were to sit down with me for a meeting, you may notice the half-circle scar on my right cheekbone that was left by a bull from my days in rodeo. As we shake hands, you may feel the callousness that comes with guitar playing and song-writing with an alternative rock band I started when I came to LA, called Javelina.

As we start discussing business, you’ll catch a bit of polish in my presentation from thirteen years of working across Brand, Strategic Sales, Strategic Planning, and Data Analytics at Nike INC. And as we wrap up and stand to part ways, you will surely notice that my suit pants are just a bit too tight in the thigh from my time as a competitive distance runner.

But as we start your journey to your real estate goal, what I hope you notice is my bold, relentless, strategic, and limitless drive to succeed. Because that is my defining characteristic. It is the engine that has propelled me from switchback to switch back on the winding road I’ve taken to get to where I am now, the founder of The Knight Group LA.

The Knight Group LA was established at a challenging time. In fact, if you were to try and put together a situation in which a new real estate agent and the team would have the least likely chance of surviving, it would resemble the day The Knight Group LA was born. It was the Fall of 2020, just about the time the second wave of COVID19 hit LA and lockdowns began. My wife and I had recently had our first baby, and subsequently purchased a new home, which was a big step for us at the time.

NIKE had just gone through large layoffs, and my entire division of data analytics had gotten wiped out. I found myself, and my new little family, standing exposed and vulnerable at an isolated time in history where jobs were scarce. I decided that day that I would never again depend on someone else to employ me. I would become my own boss and start my own business.

I’ve always had a passion for real estate and combining my Fortune 100 sales, data analytics, and marketing experience into a business made so much sense. I thought to myself, “I know how to forecast, find marketplace trends, negotiate contracts, and with my unique marketing background I could change the way real estate marketing is done to increase demand for a home! ”

I chose to stand up for The Knight Group and have never looked back.

The idea is working. The Knight Group LA has broken records in every location we’ve sold a home to date. More importantly, we are helping our clients surpass their financial goals and protecting them along the way. With much bigger ideas in store, I’m thankful for the winding road I’m on. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There has definitively been a mixture of challenges to starting a real estate business during the pandemic.

By nature, real estate is an extremely social business and hard to accomplish in the isolation of a work-from-home world. Layering in the fact that housing inventory dropped to a historical low and home prices soared also posed its own set of challenges.

But challenges are what define us. Without them, we would never get to feel that feeling of overcoming them. We’d never grow. We’d never get to see what we are made of.

What makes you happy?
The thought of complete freedom makes me happy. Freedom is able to do whatever it is you want to do in this life. Go wherever you chose with whomever you’d like.

Freedom of monetary constraints, health constraints, mental/ emotional constraints, and anything else that humans find themselves bound by. I find glimpses of that state of mind when I’m writing a song, when I’m out for a run, when my wife, daughter, and I are playing with PlayDoh when I see my business getting stronger.

I believe this is because I grew up watching people struggle. We all have just a short time in the experience called life, and it feels like such a waste to miss it because we never got a chance to look up from the struggle.
