Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Lai.

Hi Janet, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up amidst the urban energy of Hong Kong and San Francisco, I was naturally drawn to consumer products and the creativity behind their marketing. Early in college, I worked part-time at a bank, exploring a potential path in finance, but I quickly realized my true curiosity lay in the beauty, wellness, and health supplement industries. I would often spend lunch breaks and free time walking the city streets and stores, observing the latest product launches and trends firsthand.

A defining moment came during an international business course, where we analyzed a case study on a shampoo brand. That experience sparked my passion for blending business strategy with consumer-focused product development. To deepen my expertise, I pursued an MBA in Southern California, concentrating on marketing and brand management.

I have since dedicated my career to driving innovation, leading global teams, and building beauty, wellness, and nutrition brands that deliver meaningful growth. My work spans all facets of business—from marketing strategy, brand positioning, and consumer insights to product development, sales, and operations—ensuring that every initiative creates authentic connections with consumers while driving measurable business results worldwide.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey hasn’t always been straightforward. In the CPG industry, high sales targets and financial pressures are a constant reality. Early on, I realized that long-term success comes from creating products and marketing campaigns that truly resonate with consumers. This led me to focus on product development that is innovative, effective, and, whenever possible, made with natural ingredients.

While I started in the beauty industry, I eventually expanded my focus to include nutrition, health, and wellness. My approach shifted from simply making aesthetically appealing products to developing solutions that genuinely improve people’s well-being—helping them look better, feel better, and live healthier lives. Providing real, thoughtful solutions with natural ingredients has become central to the way I build products and drive innovation in the industry.

As you know, we’re big fans of Marketing Consultant. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I bring together global marketing experience and hands-on product development. I focus on creating products and campaigns that are thoughtfully designed, clinically supported, and built to meet real consumer needs. Over my career, I’ve been fortunate to contribute to the launch of over 500 products and help guide brands through international expansion.

What I find most rewarding is creating products that make a difference in people’s lives. This includes women’s health solutions for menopause, UTIs, and PMS—products that have been shared with me through heartfelt feedback from women who have experienced real benefits. These experiences continue to inspire me to focus on work that is meaningful and effective.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I enjoy working in diverse environments, learning from others, and sharing my experience through mentoring and support. Creating a collaborative, dynamic space where everyone can grow and have fun while achieving results is incredibly rewarding. I also love taking products international, giving people around the world the chance to experience the innovative and effective solutions my teams and I have worked to develop.
