Community Highlights: Meet Gabrielle Hennings And Zoe Hemenway of H&H Learning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Hennings And Zoe Hemenway

Hi Gabrielle Hennings and Zoe Hemenway, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Becoming educators was a natural choice for both of us after experiencing firsthand the impact of feeling unsupported in the ways we needed as students. After majoring in education, we taught at the elementary level for several years. Our experiences as teachers were quite different: Zoe saw the benefits of inclusivity within the ICT model, while Gabrielle recognized that her neurodivergent students were not receiving the support they needed. Zoe was curious how this model could be applied in smaller settings, whereas Gabrielle focused on gaining experience with individualized support. Fast forward to 2021, we found ourselves working together at the same educational center.

After two years of collaboration, we built a strong partnership and shared passion for celebrating the strengths of our neurodiverse students. In April 2023, when the opportunity to open our own learning center arose, we eagerly seized it, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Now, a little more than a year into this venture, we couldn’t be happier with our decision to embark on this journey.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When we launched H&H Learning, we dove headfirst into the realities of running a business. From handling weekly trash duty to managing payroll, we’ve taken on every responsibility and faced new challenges along the way. Despite these hurdles, our commitment to delivering high-quality educational services to our clients has never wavered. Instead, we’ve embraced each challenge as a chance to learn and evolve as business owners. We’re taking it step by step, staying open to continuous growth.

We’ve been impressed with H&H Learning, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
H&H Learning is an educational center dedicated to helping neurodiverse students blossom with confidence. We are committed to creating a neurodiverse-affirming environment that prioritizes connection over compliance. Our services include homeschooling, educational remediation, and kindergarten readiness for students ranging from pre-k through college.

We firmly believe in the power of meeting each learner at their individual starting point, recognizing that true educational growth happens when tailored to individual potential.

With 14 years of combined dedication to the field of education, we have developed a profound understanding of the unique needs of neurodiverse learners. Our experience, combined with extensive training in implementing remedial programs, allows us to target a variety of skills, including reading, writing, executive functioning, processing, and more. As lifelong learners ourselves, we are committed to continuing our own education to provide the best possible support for our students

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
