Community Highlights: Meet Dr. Miranda Boe of The Breathing Room

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Miranda Boe

Hi Dr. Miranda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always been curious about the human mind—how we think, feel, and adapt. As a psychologist, I spent years helping individuals navigate mental and emotional struggles. While that work was crucial, I often saw a gap between professional support and the tools people needed to sustain change in their everyday lives. I knew there had to be a better way to bridge this disconnect. This led me to explore ancient healing practices—breathwork, meditation, and sound therapy—which science confirms as powerful methods for nervous system regulation and resilience. Yet, in today’s fast-paced world, developing a practice and integrating them consistently remains a challenge for many.

A year ago, I took a leap and founded The Breathing Room (TBR), a space designed to bridge that gap. TBR is not just a meditation studio; it is an immersive sanctuary where psychology meets ancient wisdom. By integrating evidence-based techniques with time-honored practices such as breathwork, sound healing, vibroacoustic therapy, etc. TBR provides individuals with a structured yet flexible environment to cultivate inner stillness. These methods are deeply effective, yet often difficult to sustain without support, which is why TBR offers guidance, structure, tools, resources, and community to help people establish lasting wellness habits.

TBR is a luxury sanctuary where people can train their nervous systems, develop self-regulation skills, and experience profound transformation. The space itself is a metaphor for what I hope others create within—a personal sanctuary of stillness, worthiness, and balance. Here, clients receive the support, structure, and freedom needed to build sustainable wellness habits that enhance their lives.

My mission is to make mental wellness a fundamental life skill—one that everyone can learn, practice, and embody. True transformation happens when we master our body’s response to life’s challenges. Through TBR, I am dedicated to making this process more accessible, effective, and lasting for all.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges has been that The Breathing Room is something entirely new—there’s no blueprint for this. People don’t immediately understand what we are or how we fit into their lives because a space like this hasn’t really existed before. This isn’t just a meditation studio, and it’s not therapy—it’s a lifestyle, a community, and most importantly, a place where people can build an internal space of stillness that feels safe. That kind of space is rare, and yet it’s exactly what we all need.

Because TBR is a new concept, many people don’t even realize they’re searching for this type of support until they experience it. They know they’re overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected—but they don’t always know how mindfulness practices and the mindset shift that we help train can be the missing piece. So, a big part of what we’ve had to do is educate people on how TBR can help them in ways they might not have considered before. It’s not just about coming in to “relax.” It’s about learning to regulate your nervous system, creating a new mindset, managing your mental state, and creating an internal foundation of balance that supports every other part of your life.

Another challenge has been shifting the mindset around consistency. Just like going to the gym, mental well-being isn’t a one-time fix. It requires repetition, practice, and commitment. We want to see you regularly. Many people have tried meditation on their own and felt like they “failed” because they didn’t know what to expect. We help them overcome those blocks by providing structure, expert guidance, and an environment designed specifically for this kind of deep work. But again, because this business concept is new, people don’t always realize why a place like The Breathing Room is necessary until they step inside and feel the difference. It is a lifestyle that we can all have.

And, of course, from a business perspective, one of the biggest challenges has been sustaining a high-touch, deeply personalized experience where every client feels seen, supported, and guided. At The Breathing Room, personalization is at the heart of everything we offer—from the way we structure sessions to the individual attention clients receive. We believe there is no substitute for a safe, supportive space designed specifically for healing, where people can fully immerse themselves in the experience, free from distractions, and engage with tools, resources, and expert instructors who truly understand their journey.

However, building and maintaining that kind of space—especially in a city like this—comes with real financial challenges. We are a small, woman-run business with no outside funding, which means every decision has required thoughtful strategy, innovation, and an immense amount of dedication. There’s no traditional roadmap for what we’re creating, and while that’s exciting, it also means we’ve had to pave our own way, ensuring that we can grow sustainably while staying true to our mission.

Despite these challenges, the response has been incredible. Once people come in, they feel it—they realize there is nowhere else quite like this. It’s been about bridging that gap, helping people see that they don’t have to carry their stress alone, that there are tools that truly work, and that this kind of sanctuary should be an essential part of how we care for ourselves

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Breathing Room?
The Breathing Room is a first-of-its-kind space dedicated to mental well-being in a way that goes far beyond traditional meditation studios or wellness centers. It’s a place where ancient practices meet modern science, creating a structured yet deeply personal experience that helps people find stillness, resilience, and balance in their lives.

What sets The Breathing Room apart is that this isn’t just about meditation—it’s about building an internal space of safety and clarity that stays with you beyond the session. You will leave with an improved mindset and connect with your inner resources; everything we offer is intended to help you manage your mental well being. We provide a highly curated, immersive experience that integrates meditation, sound therapy, vibration, breathwork, and nervous system regulation, all in an environment specifically designed to make these practices easier, more accessible, and more impactful.

Most people have tried meditation, but many struggle to make it a habit because they don’t know if they’re doing it “right” or feel like they can’t focus. We take that pressure off. Everything at TBR is designed to guide and support you, whether you’re new to these practices or have been exploring them for years. The space itself plays a huge role—every element is intentional, from the lighting to the soundscape. There is space for solitude and there is community space where members are often conversing and sharing about their personal journeys, everyone supports one another.

I am so proud of our community. We offer a true sense of belonging and connection, it is so rare and magical to see and be part of. Our sessions are kept intimate, our instructors know you by name, and there’s an emphasis on personalization. It’s not just about coming in for a session and leaving—it becomes a lifestyle, you are part of something, you’re taking care of yourself, your prioritizing your mental well- being, and we do it all with intention. You will feel safe in our space, with our instructors, community, and the values we hold. TBR is a space where you can return to again and again to go within, heal, replenish, reset, and grow. We want you to have a meaningful relationship with TBR.

At its core, The Breathing Room is a revolutionary approach to mental and emotional well-being. It’s about giving people a place where they can finally feel safe to slow down, go inward, and cultivate the kind of inner balance that transforms not just their stress levels, but their entire way of being.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
The biggest risk has been building something that didn’t exist before and trusting that people would recognize its value. There was no clear model for The Breathing Room—no blueprint to follow—so everything we’ve done has required stepping into the unknown.

From the start, I knew this space needed to be more than just a meditation studio. It had to be a fully immersive experience, where we apply what we learn. We all need a place to escape to and truly regulate our nervous system, find stillness, and experience deep transformation in a way that isn’t commonly available. But because this isn’t something people are used to seeing, there was always the risk that they wouldn’t understand what we do, or that they wouldn’t realize how much they need this kind of support.

Another major risk has been financial. The Breathing Room is a small, woman-run business with no outside funding, so every decision—every investment in the space, the technology, the experience—has been made with the belief that if we built it with integrity, people would come. We are always authentic to the vision and values, and that sometimes holds us back from being there for the masses. It is a slower, more intentional path, but it’s also a risk because it means we are entirely responsible for sustaining and evolving the business and it has been very scary.

There was also the risk of going against the grain of what’s “smart” or “sensible” in business today. So much of the industry is focused on digital solutions and quick fixes. But I believe that transformation often happens in real spaces, in community, with expert guidance. It takes time. Choosing to prioritize in-person connection and high-touch experiences in a world that’s moving toward digital and automation is not exactly what new businesses are doing. But we see every day that people crave real connection, feeling safe, supported, understood, and want real tools—and that’s what we offer.

Ultimately, every risk we’ve taken has been rooted in trust—trust in the need for this work, trust in the people who show up, and trust in the fact that when you create something meaningful, it will find its audience.
