Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Behnoosh Rahavard
Hi Dr. Behnoosh , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After completing my Anesthesiology residency and Pain Management fellowship in Chicago, I knew I wanted to return to my roots in Los Angeles. My first opportunity came with a position in Rancho Mirage, CA, where I had the privilege of serving the Palm Springs community. This was a pivotal time in my career, as I became the sole Pain Management specialist within my group in the Inland Empire, performing a wide variety of procedures. The volume and diversity of cases helped shape my expertise early on.
In 2022, I was fortunate to be recruited by a prominent pain management practice in Los Angeles. This marked a significant moment both professionally and personally, as it brought me back home to where my family is based. During my time with this practice, I gained invaluable insights into the intricacies of running a private practice. While I enjoyed almost every aspect of my role, I began to envision creating a practice that offered a more personalized, concierge-level experience for my patients.
After many thoughtful conversations with my husband and weighing the pros and cons of the next step, we decided it was time to start my own practice. The journey has been challenging but immensely rewarding. It felt like a crash course in business management—though I had experience working in private practice, being the ultimate decision-maker brought its own set of complexities.
Through the ups and downs, I’ve had many successes and learned countless lessons along the way. At the heart of it all is my patients’ satisfaction. Their well-being and happiness with my treatments are the ultimate measures of success for me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road, but I believe that every challenge has been a learning opportunity that made me stronger. One of the biggest hurdles was transitioning from being part of an established practice to owning my own. While I had experience in private practice, being the person ultimately responsible for every decision—clinical, operational, and financial—was a new level of responsibility.
Navigating the business side of medicine has its own set of challenges. From managing staff, handling insurance complexities, to maintaining financial sustainability—all while ensuring top-notch care for my patients—was a balancing act I had to master. It was almost like earning an MBA while working full-time.
There were also personal sacrifices. Starting a practice from scratch required long hours, a lot of planning, and an immense amount of energy. There were moments of self-doubt, but my passion for patient care and the support of my family helped me push through. In the end, every struggle was worth it, as it allowed me to build something that truly reflects my vision of patient care.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Vitalis Regenerative & Pain Clinic is a specialized pain management and regenerative medicine clinic with two locations, in Encino and Long Beach, serving patients across Los Angeles and Orange County. We provide the full spectrum of interventional pain management procedures, but what sets us apart are some of the more advanced techniques that few physicians offer, such as Spinal Cord Stimulators, Spinal Discograms, and Lumbar Sympathetic Blocks for conditions like Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).
What’s unique about our practice is our ability to treat a wide age range of patients, from as young as 2 years old, with regenerative interventions starting at age 9. We also handle personal injury cases, which require specialized care and documentation. As one of the few female pain management physicians in the Los Angeles area, I take pride in offering a compassionate, personalized approach to pain relief.
What truly distinguishes Vitalis is our commitment to customizing every treatment plan to meet each patient’s unique needs. We understand that pain doesn’t wait, so we strive to provide same-day, in-office procedures whenever possible, ensuring timely care and relief for our patients. We are proud to be a clinic that blends cutting-edge medical expertise with a patient-first approach.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Of course, many of my close friends and colleagues have offered invaluable advice throughout this journey, and I am deeply grateful to them all. But the two people who have truly been my greatest supporters and who have sacrificed the most are my husband and my daughter.
My husband, with his extensive experience in both management and the medical field, has been a constant source of guidance and strength. He’s played a dual role, supporting me both at home and in the business, helping with everything from strategic decisions to navigating the complexities of running a practice. His unwavering belief in me has been a pillar of my success.
Our daughter has also been incredibly understanding and supportive, especially during those times when the demands of building a business took me away from family life. Their patience, love, and encouragement have been instrumental in keeping me grounded and motivated through every challenge.
