Community Highlights: Meet Brandie Rosby and Darionna Harris of Coast Sisters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandie Rosby and Darionna Harris.

Hi Brandie & Darionna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our business story began on January 1st, 2018 when we declared the new year “the Year of Self Care”. We were residing in two different states across the map, Darionna Harris on the East coast and Brandie Rosby on the West coast. The idea of creating self-care packages from coast to coast blossomed into the Coast Sisters. We wanted to create in a way that would improve and heal the world starting with the Black community. Our goal was to create products from a holistic perspective. The seeds planted by that idea alone sprouted our aromatherapy and herbal remedies. Our recipes have been tailored to heal common ailments of our people. Luckily, we have had the opportunity to share our products with people of all backgrounds. As we continue to grow, we will continue to give back to the community. We look forward to growing community gardens, creating outdoor libraries and so many other projects.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Living on opposite ends of the country is a very interesting experience. Handling business and creating formulas that aid others regardless of the difference in climate is eye-opening. We feel that it is advantageous to have first-hand experience on what type of oil and herbs are needed in different climates. We have a better understanding of whether our natural remedies are just as effective during a cold winter in Georgia or Alabama as they are effective during a summer in LA. Having the ability to create and to help others heal can be fulfilling as well as nerve wrecking. We have so many goals and ideas that we must keep organized so it doesn’t become overwhelming. Sometimes we cannot find a specific item or ingredient, and that can become stressful. However, we know how to practice self-care and utilize healthy and safe coping skills. We also work and have other obligations to consider. We fund the company ourselves and create our own resources. In the end, we see the benefits and it inspires us to continue to work hard, grow and learn.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Coast Sisters was created in order to promote the restoration of mental, spiritual, and physical health through a series of self-care packages. We specialize in aromatherapy and herbal remedies that encourage inner and external healing. Coast Sisters is cruelty-free and we opt to use organic materials and biodegradable packaging whenever possible. This is our way of “being the change”, by way of promoting local agriculture and organic choices to support a more balanced ecosystem.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
We would like to give a big thank you to our friends and family. Our friends have supported us by informing us of opportunities and events that have helped our business grow. To our family and friends that are close enough to be family that have tested our products. We do not use animals because we like to hear and read our reviews so we know exactly what to keep and improve. We are grateful for our first customer on Etsy. That was proof that our products and benefits actually make sense, are needed, and that others are willing to purchase.
