Today we’d like to introduce you to Aron Kearney.
Hi Aron, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into photography began during college while studying Broadcasting and Film. Though I had planned to work in the film industry, I discovered a deeper passion for still photography—the ability to capture a single, meaningful moment in time.
Shortly after graduating, I spent 17 years as a photographer and Photo Manager at an in-house portrait studio, all while taking on freelance gigs under my own business Aron Kearney Photography.
Based in Monrovia, California, I specialize in family and children’s photography, as well as professional headshots and special moments like graduations and engagements.
Beyond portraits, I’m inspired by the beauty of nature, the city, and the sea—always exploring and creating art from what I see. Landscape and travel photography, in particular, are where I feel most creative and alive. There’s something deeply fulfilling about discovering new places and capturing their essence in a way that turns a moment into lasting fine art. These experiences fuel my passion and continually push me to see the world with fresh eyes. It is through this work that I aim to share the peace and wonder I find in the world, and to bring glory to God who created it all.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It seems like this work comes in waves. There are times when I’m fully booked with portrait sessions and other times when my schedule is wide open. Sometimes, Etsy sales of my fine art photography pick up just when I have no portrait work, and other times the portrait bookings increase while Etsy sales slow down. Rarely do both sides of my business thrive at the same time—but that’s part of the rhythm I’ve learned to embrace.
As you know, we’re big fans of Aron Kearney Photography. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
II specialize in fun, memorable, and one-of-a-kind portrait photography. Based in Monrovia—a charming foothill city in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County—I’m passionate about capturing life’s special moments: newborns, first birthdays (including cake smashes!), family portraits, couples and engagements, graduation milestones, and more.
If you need a professional headshot, I’ve got you covered. Whether you’re an actor, musician, model, or simply need a polished image for work or social media, I’ll work with you to create a relaxed and enjoyable experience that results in photos that truly represent you.
When I’m not taking portraits, you’ll find me out exploring with my camera—traveling, chasing sunsets, and photographing breathtaking landscapes, seascapes, and cityscapes. Whether it’s the peaceful glow of a sunrise or the vibrant energy of Los Angeles at night, I’m constantly inspired by the beauty around me. I hope you enjoy viewing my work as much as I enjoy creating it.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’m not typically a big risk-taker, but I have taken some chances when it comes to marketing. Unfortunately, many of those efforts haven’t panned out. One of the biggest challenges for a small business is simply getting noticed. It’s risky, because there’s never a guarantee that the strategies you try will actually work.
