Today we’d like to introduce you to Zavier.
Hi Zavier, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been doing music seriously for about five years, and I’ve been singing for most of my life. I grew up in church so I was always singing in the musicals. Growing up in church is also what lead me to playing piano when I was 13. It sounds crazy when I tell people but I learned how to play piano from a dream. I woke up and knew how to play “Fur Elise” by Beethoven. Since I was good at piano, people ended up knowing me for that and that how I met Lil Nunu. He is who I started producing with and he is also my engineer. From that point, I just kept on working to perfect the craft. Later on, when I was 16 I taught myself how to play guitar. When I graduated, I got a midi keyboard and a MacBook Pro and that’s when I started producing and not too long after, I had gone into my first session where I recorded for the first time where I met one of my closest friends, Hit Wxnder who helped me learn to start engineering myself.
Once I got the hang of everything, I just kept getting better and now I’m part of a dope producer team called “The Wav Godz” mentored by Mr. Wilson on the Beat. Together we’ve got placements with Kap G, Phor from Black Ink Crew: Chicago, Fetty Wap, and more. I also produced the hit single “Bands” by upcoming artist, Dayway. The song was remixed by Joe Moses, Compton Av, and Mike Jay. Last year I was a part of a duo where we had released a couple of songs. This year I decided to go solo and I have released four singles. Two of those I produced and co-produced. But my favorite song I have would be “Love Letter” Produced by Cormill. I really like this song because there was a lot of emotion put into it and it really helped me to get through a lot of the things I was going through at that time.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
In all honesty, it’s been a long road and I personally went through a lot but I wouldn’t change it for anything. When I was younger, I battled depression and suicidal thoughts constantly up until this year. I still have my moments but I’d definitely say I’m in a better place now. Dealing with depression didn’t stop me from doing my music though. I put everything on a track whether it was released or unreleased. This year especially was rough. Aside from COVID shutting the world down, I was also in a bad accident where I had totaled my car. In the accident, I had also lost my guitar. Now things are going a lot smoother and I’m in a better place mentally. There was one time when I had lost every single beat I made and I lost all of my plugins. So I had to do a full restart. Even though I went through what I went through, It still made me who I am today and I would never change that.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a singer, rapper, songwriter, and producer. One of the things I specialize in and that I’m definitely proud of would be coming up with harmonies. I’ve even done vocal arrangements for a couple of people and also my sister, MJay, who is a singer and also my photographer. I also specialize in being able to learn by ear. Thats how I learned songs majority of the time on the piano when I was growing up. I’m known for being very passionate about my music and also for my work ethic. I would describe my music as very all-around. I have songs where I’m singing and more on a slow vibe. Then I have songs where I’m rapping and it’s on more of an upbeat, turnt type of sound like my single “I Ain’t Worried” ft. Kyra Walls. I also have songs like “Ride for Me” where I do both. I can really come out with any type of song I want because I’m so versatile. Whether it’s producing or being an artist, I’m always experimenting with new sounds which is also what separates me from other artists.
