Today we’d like to introduce you to Shai’Anne Johnson.
Hi Shai’Anne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up i’ve always been someone who loved anything art. I would draw and paint all the time when I was little. In the 10th grade I was introduced to fashion. I’ve always had an interesting style but now I was learning how to design and create my own. I started out sketching designs then eventually my grandma taught me how to make my sketches come to life! I stuck with it and now I do custom pieces. I am making both kid’s and adults clothes now and you can find some of them on Instagram at @creme__. With painting, I grew a love for that and realized how similar it was to makeup. In college, I decided to dabble in makeup and realized I was really good at it! I decided to advance my talent and go to school for it and became certified. You can now find some of my work on Instagram at @crememua. Although with covid, it became more difficult to get work, I still love it and take safety measures when I do take on jobs.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s definitely been a rollercoaster! Most entrepreneurs have their ups and downs. For a while, I didn’t believe in myself and I would often give up in the past. However, seeing the smiles, and the little things like a custom fit, or what a makeover does for my clients pushes me to keep pushing through. It’s a passion for me and I would do it every moment of the day.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a designer, seamstress, makeup artist, and a creative! I like to add creative because I dabble in a few things. I’ve coordinated shows, styled, did special fx, and the most simplest things like interview makeup. I believe what sets me apart from others is that I put my heart into what I do. It’s not just money for me it’s the idea that I get to make someone feel happy/beautiful even if it’s just for a moment.
What’s next?
My goal is to stick with kids for a while and add more designs because I can be more artsy and creative with their clothing. I want to eventually do production out of a factory so I can focus more on the design aspect of things whether than sewing everything myself. As for makeup, I would love to enter the entertainment industry and work there some more. Hopefully, covid cases go down so we can get back to work.
