Check Out Xiaodi Zhang’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Xiaodi Zhang.

Hi Xiaodi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey began with a deep passion for both art and my cultural heritage. I graduated with a Master’s degree in Illustration from Syracuse University in the United States, where I had the opportunity to explore the intersection of traditional Chinese culture and contemporary visual language. During my time there, I created a series of illustrations and ceramic characters that focused on China’s traditional culture, with particular emphasis on the country’s intangible cultural heritage. My goal was to breathe new life into cultural elements that were gradually fading from public consciousness. This exploration of my roots and culture led to my graduate exhibition, which centered on innovative reinterpretations of Chinese intangible cultural heritage.
Upon returning to China, I noticed a growing movement among artists—like myself—who were dedicated to innovating traditional Chinese art forms and reintroducing them to modern audiences. China boasts an incredible wealth of talented artists, and I quickly realized there was an opportunity to connect these creators with global audiences.
This realization led to the founding of our art agency, which I co-founded with a close friend. Our goal is to build a bridge between Chinese artists and international markets, showcasing the richness of contemporary Chinese art, traditional crafts, and illustration. We believe that authentic art, rooted in local culture yet globally relevant, has the power to captivate the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has definitely not been smooth, but the challenges have been a crucial part of the journey. One of the most significant hurdles has been the lack of established pathways for Chinese artists to engage with the global art scene in a professional and impactful way. In China, the art market has been growing rapidly, but many talented artists still struggle to gain recognition outside of their local communities.
Another challenge has been finding the right balance between honoring traditional Chinese techniques and making them accessible to a global audience. It’s a delicate process of innovation—preserving the integrity of the craft while introducing contemporary elements that resonate with today’s global conversation.
There have certainly been moments of doubt, especially during the early stages when we were still trying to build our reputation and secure meaningful partnerships. However, every challenge we faced only reinforced our commitment to this mission. Our belief in the power of art to bridge cultures and open dialogues has been our driving force, and it continues to keep us moving forward.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our agency specializes in representing and promoting contemporary Chinese artists who are pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms. We work with a diverse range of creative mediums, including illustration, contemporary art, and traditional crafts. What sets us apart is our ability to combine the depth of China’s rich cultural history with the vibrancy of modern artistic expression. We provide a platform where artists can connect with global audiences and share their works in ways that are thoughtful, meaningful, and deeply rooted in culture.
Our brand stands for a nuanced, well-informed, and global perspective on Chinese art. We’re not just about promoting art—we’re about creating cultural dialogues that bring fresh perspectives from China to the rest of the world. One of our proudest achievements is the way we’ve helped emerging artists gain exposure in international markets, whether through exhibitions, collaborations, or brand partnerships. Our focus on authenticity, cultural relevance, and storytelling is what makes us unique.
We also serve as a creative bridge, connecting brands and cultural institutions with the vibrant voices of Chinese creators. We believe in fostering long-term relationships with both artists and clients, offering more than just short-term opportunities. We’re here to support the growth of both the artists and the broader cultural ecosystem.

What are your plans for the future?
Looking ahead, we aim to continue expanding our reach globally. We’re working on building new international partnerships, curating more exhibitions, and helping more Chinese artists access diverse global markets. We also plan to focus more on digital and interactive platforms, where we can present Chinese art in innovative formats and connect with younger, tech-savvy audiences.
We are particularly excited about the potential for cross-cultural collaborations between Chinese and international artists. This exchange of ideas is key to growing the impact of Chinese art on the global stage, and we are committed to being at the forefront of that movement.
On a more personal level, we are always seeking ways to create a more sustainable and inclusive ecosystem for artists, where their work is not only appreciated but also supported in ways that allow them to continue innovating. We’re determined to create spaces where art is not just a product, but a cultural force capable of bringing people together, telling stories, and inspiring change.
