Today we’d like to introduce you to Veera Katto.
Hi Veera, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from Finland and had my own media company there before moving to LA. I used to have a fashion and lifestyle blog, so I built up a clientele organically from there. My mom was born in Manhattan, NYC which guaranteed the opportunity to move to the US around four years ago. I had always dreamed about moving to the States and exploring the opportunities that creative industries offer here. I applied to College in the US to study Theology and Organizational Leadership, which I am currently finishing up, and that worked out to be a perfect excuse to make the move.
When I got my studies rolling I wanted to explore opportunities in fashion and wanted to work with Acne Studios specifically. I applied in, started from the entry level, and ended up working as a Client Relation Specialist for West Coast. Acne Studios has been one of the biggest inspirations and schools in my career and continues to impact my creative journey. I am very grateful for the opportunities the brand opened up for me. Fast forward, I started building up my own business as a creative director and consultant and ended up jumping on my own feet this year. The journey has been wild but very rewarding!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building a business is never easy and comes with its ups and downs, like anything in life. It is a lot of learning which I continue to pursue and seek wisdom for, from people who have done similar journeys. It is scary to build anything new, but when you have people around you that you can trust and do real life with anything is possible. I am grateful for my people. It requires a lot of faith to pursue anything bigger than yourself, but that also brings a lot of purpose into life. I hope to operate in a space where I am always learning and growing and living for a greater cause. I think that the key is not giving up or giving into fear. As long as you will continue to grow and build, you’ve already won. My greatest strength is a relationship with God.
The industry is still very male-dominated and that comes with its own challenges, but I am eager to see more women to take more ground and will make sure that I continue to provide space and opportunities for that to happen more and more.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a creative director and consultant. I offer consulting services specifically for upcoming fashion brands in clientele, structure, and creative vision. Few of my favorite projects that I’ve had the privilege to work with will be coming to live as we step into the new year, and I cannot wait to share these to the world.
I am also stepping into the music world for the first time with my own music and will be releasing new music in the coming year!
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love LA and the atmosphere it creatively offers. I don’t think there is any other city that offers the opportunity to be in the creative conversations and flow like here, but it is a tough city to build a home in and sustain. I do think that as much as there can be competition, I have felt that there is a lot of support and celebration for pursuing your craziest visions and goals. The city has challenged me to grow, expand, and hold on to my values and convictions. I have found and built a home here.
