Check Out The Songery’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Songery.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I currently am a music streamer on Twitch, that’s primarily what I do these days. I got into Twitch through an old friend who is a gamer, and I’ve been streaming since January 2019, though my channel didn’t really start to gain traction until a few months into quarantine. Before Twitch, I was like hundreds of other singers/songwriters just trying to navigate my way through LA looking for my next gig. Twitch has really brought about a sense of belonging and community with my music that I struggled with before.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at allll, lol… it’s still not a smooth road. And I think that’s true for any entrepreneur/outlier/artist… regardless of eventual “success”. The success- the payoff- is the journey, and I feel once that’s accepted, that’s when you know you’re in it for the long haul- and that’s where you find real fulfillment and purpose.

Most of the struggles I’ve encountered along the way are struggles that still pop up and probably always will… struggles with ego, insecurity, capability, self-worth, doubt… it’s like you throw yourself into a dark room filled with all this stuff and you just stumble and clamor around, clanking and bumping into things at every turn, trying to figure out how to make sense within this void – eventually, you slowly gain awareness and the senses sharpen. You learn which opportunities serve you, which don’t…. most important, you learn a lot about yourself and who you are and who you want to be.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer/songwriter who produces their own music and streams on Twitch. On Twitch, I improvise music and loop both my original works and cover songs. I’m kind of notorious on Twitch for making cover songs sound different from their originals. My approach to music is always from a pure emotive experience- especially when there are lyrics involved- I let the story steer the ship and steep my soul and body in the dynamics of the music. I let the music become whatever it wants to be… as filtered through my own personal experience. It’s like I’m building a world with these sounds and I want to take anyone listening who is willing to go there with me.

What sets you apart and what are you most proud of in your work?
I’m not entirely sure what sets me apart from others aside from whatever makes me… me, which ironically is just a confluence of everything I have loved, experienced, and connected with. I have a deep intrinsic desire to connect with just about anything. I am fascinated by life, all the similarities we share and the differences we cultivate. I get pretty wistful when I start to think about it.

I am not entirely sure what I am most proud of… if we are going off of my actual catalogue of works, I’d probably have to go with my song “Clowns” because the way that song came about was so random and I’m actually pretty impressed with my engineering/arrangement work on that track.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Chase what inspires, excites and ignites you. It’s normal to be scared and nervous… to talk yourself out of opportunities… growth is uncomfortable, terrifying even. The mind works wonders at keeping you “safe”. There’s always uncertainty in the unknown- but you can take it. Just know you’ll be ok, you’re evolving.
