Check Out The Kicks’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Kicks

Hi The, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The Kicks was formed summer of 2022 after Nick Springer graduated from USC. He and King Leon, also a USC graduate, began performing at various venues throughout Los Angeles. After working with other musicians, Sebastian Feo (drummer), Alex Palencia (guitarist), and Cory Oskardmay (bassist) came together to form the current members of The Kicks. Each member has a unique background, bringing diversity and passion to the music. The Kicks is a band where each member has creative input in the songwriting, recording, production, and performing process. It’s a truly collaborative group.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle has been time management and financial independence. We all work jobs outside of music, and living in an expensive city can make this project challenging. As well, we all live in different parts of LA. However, what makes this band special is everyone’s commitment to making us succeed. And success does not equate to money. Every rehearsal, show, content session, and get together is a success because we get to be together. We get to do what we love, and that’s make genuine music.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Alex Palencia – Gigging Musician, Radio Station Assistant, Waiter
King Leon – Paralegal
Nick Springer – M&A Accountant
Sebastian Feo – Gigging Musician, Drum Tech, Barback
Cory Oskardmay – Environmental Consultant

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The most important quality for success as a musician or a band, in my opinion, is to genuinely enjoy the journey itself. It’s easy to get caught up in the idea of where you want to end up—whether that’s playing massive venues, topping charts, or earning accolades. But if you’re only focused on those final destinations, you might miss out on what makes being a musician truly fulfilling.

The moments of creation, the late-night jam sessions, the challenges, and the small wins along the way—that’s where the magic really happens. When you love the process, it shows in your music, and that’s what ultimately resonates with people. And being able to share with the world something you created and the experiences you had is special.

The industry can be unpredictable, and success can come in many forms. But if you’re enjoying what you do and are passionate about the craft, you’ve already succeeded in the most important way. So, focus on making music that excites you and embrace the journey.
